Nightmare vs. Dream Scenarios

Posted by Rob in Fantasy Advice on Jun 17th 2010 and last modified on Jun 27th 2010. (Print This)

The NFL Draft was full of surprises and full of Tim Tebow's family. It is sad to say that the new time slot was a hit, so I don't think they will be going back to the old format anytime soon. This was one of the deepest drafts in recent memory and you had players being taken off the board in Round 7 that could be classified as "impact" type players. Many notable players even went undrafted, only to be signed after the draft. That is a different article for a different day, but this article has to do with situations the drafted players found themselves in come draft day and how it affects you in future drafts. So take notice, because the 'Hood is Back, better than ever. Nightmare Scenarios Quarterbacks QB-Sam Bradford-St. Louis Rams-Bradford was the first pick overall. That comes with a warning since number one picks usually go to a lousy... read more

F.F.B. wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving Day games are here and while many people are demanding a change away from the same old teams that play on Turkey Day, notably the Detroit Lions, let's just be thankful that there is something to watch. While the slated games don't scream must see t.v., they are better matchups than one might think. This does not include the matinee game that pits the injury-riddled Detroit Lions against the Green Bay Packers. This game might have been more competitive if QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson were playing, but chances are they will miss the game. The Packers have been playing better football as of late and WR Greg Jennings has re-emerged as fantasy owners' say to themselves, "Why did I trade this guy for Glen Coffee?" This one will be a blowout and NFL fans will demand that a... read more

Ndamukong Suh-DT-Nebraska-The early favorite for the top slot?

The 2010 NFL Draft is right around the corner, well not really, but to diehard football fans' it is. There are some changes to the  format for the draft and while I may not agree with it, I can see why the NFL is doing it. The NFL Draft has evolved into a huge event and has become a rite of passage in April. The format for the 75th NFL Draft is as follows: Thursday, April 22, 2010>7:30 p.m.--11:00 p.m.< Friday, April 23, 2010>6:30 p.m.--11:00 p.m.< Saturday, April 24, 2010>10:00 a.m.--6:00 p.m.< My hope is that the new plan backfires on the NFL and viewership suffers, then maybe they will move it back to the original format where friends can make a weekend out of it. Anyways, enough from me, let's get to the mock. This mock draft includes juniors who I think... read more

Miles Austin

The NFL season is in full swing, along with that comes the bye weeks that can wreak havoc on your fantasy squad. Many owners have been left short with the bye weeks, so we at Fantasy Football Brothers would like to do what we can to hopefully help you out in your time of need. Last week I wrote an article called the "droppables"  in which I put myself out on a limb and my editor forced me to put a disclaimer for the very reason of looking like a fool. Week 5 has come and gone and as I look back on the article, I see a couple of names that stand out, for example Jamal Lewis(117 yards rushing), Jeremy Maclin(6 rec.,142 yards,2 TD's) and Miles Austin(10 rec.,250 yards,2 TD's). While these guys had career days, it is nice to know they have officially made it off the "droppable" list. Back... read more

The NFL season will be kicked off today with an opening Thursday night game. All season long FantasyFootball Brothers will take a look at each week's game and break them down, giving you much needed fantasy advice as you set your lineups. So let's get started. Week 1 Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers (8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009) What a way to start the 2009 NFL season. These are two of the most physical teams in the NFL and both have elite defenses. Look for both team's to try and establish the run early. Pittsburgh will also test the interior of the Titans' defense, especially with Albert Haynesworth gone, so RB Willie Parker may find some holes to run through. After the teams are done feeling each other out look for Pittsburgh to go to alot of play action fakes, something that QB Ben Roethlisberger does very well, where he can find... read more

There is a common misconception amongst football fans that O-lines need a star left tackle or a bunch of Pro Bowlers to be great. Simply put that theorys' wrong, take for example the big uglies of the New York Giants. Last year the Giants boasted a pair of 1,000 yard rushers in Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward. The last time that was done was the 1985 Cleveland Browns with Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner. What makes this even more impressive is that today's NFL is so different from the NFL in 1985, with faster, bigger players and more intricate defensive schemes. One common factor in ranking the offensive lines is how long the unit has been working together, two to three years appears to be the offensive line theory, not any different than the third year wide receiver theory which states a receiver will breakout their third year in the NFL.... read more

Talent and stature were the original characteristics that spawned correlations between the two undeniably gifted wide-outs. But as time has passed, we've seen that they have even more in common than originally thought: BIG mouths, with an unavoidable attraction for trouble. 2009 Touchdown Vultures

Posted by Rob in Fantasy Advice on Jun 24th 2009 and last modified on Jun 28th 2009. (Print This)

Like it or not the touchdown vultures are here to stay in the NFL. The game has become more specialized and running the ball in from 5 yards on out has become a specialty. I can think of some guys who have made careers out of being touchdown vultures, like Mike Alstott. Jerome Bettis towards the end of his career also comes to mind. The modern goal line backs are sometimes hard to find, but the ones that are there every year are easy to identify, think T.J. Duckett, who has made a career out of other people’s scraps. A touchdown vulture will help you in your draft and make excellent bye week replacements, if these guys scamper one inch for a touchdown, they can net you 6 points. Julius Jones could rush 15 times for 60 yards and get you 6 points, see the upside? So without further ado,... read more

Nightmare Scenario….

Posted by Rob in Fantasy Advice on Apr 27th 2009 (Print This)

The NFL Draft is now over and players will now report to their respective teams after signing lucrative deals even though they have not done anything in the NFL. While we scratch our heads and wonder what the Cowboys and Raiders were doing during the draft, let's take a look at some nightmare scenarios for the 2009 Rookie class, Rounds 1 and 2 only. 1.)Matt Stafford-QB-Detroit--Learning on the job is never a good thing and this kid is a far cry from Matt Ryan. Although they have done a nice job surrounding him with some weapons in Detroit, it is not a given that he will start over Daunte Culpepper. We consider Stafford to be two to three years away before contributing from a fantasy aspect. 2.)Mark Sanchez-QB-New York Jets--Let me echo my prior statement that learning on the job is not beneficial to your fantasy squad. We see Sanchez starting from... read more

Jay Cutler’s Fantasy Football Impact

Posted by Bill in Fantasy Advice on Apr 3rd 2009 and last modified on Apr 5th 2009. (Print This)

Quarterback Jay Cutler was traded to the Chicago Bears yesterday for two first round draft picks, and QB Kyle Orton. The move puts Denver in position to draft a QB at the 11 spot or trade draft picks and move up in the draft, or trade draft picks and acquire a QB from a team like Cleveland which has two to many Quarterbacks. But that is not here nor there. We are going to analyze the impact in Chicago Fantasy Brothers style. Cutler brings his rocket arm and diva like attitude to the QB desperate Bears. The good news is Cutler should win a bunch of games this year, and instantly vault the Bears into NFC Super Bowl contenders in 09. Cutler will have an above average Offensive line protecting him and a great Running Back 1 in Matt Forte to keep the opposing defenses honest. A stellar Bear's defense... read more
