How bad does the Randy Moss release hurt the Vikings going forward?  I know Moss wasn't great statistically, but defenses always game planned around him.  With Moss gone that attention will be put back on Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson.  Their production will suffer on a weekly basis because of this.  Favre goes from being a QB2 with upside to a low end QB2.  He's not even worth a roster spot in 8 or 10 team leagues.  If you think I'm over reacting about what type of presence Moss has on an offense, take a look at the Patriots.  Sure they're winning games, but Welker and Brady haven't posted anywhere near the same numbers since Moss left town.  Outside of Peyton Manning, I don't completely trust any other quarterback on a weekly basis.  Hopefully this changes going forward.  If we held our fantasy drafts today, would Rivers be the... read more

Some owners have been scrambling all week trying to find an adequate starting quarterback for Sunday.  It was probably a little more difficult than some might have thought.  Due to the first six team bye week, we will be without Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler and the Vick/Kolb combination.  All solid weekly starters and that's before we take into account the Tony Romo injury.  Most leagues waiver wire probably had owners fighting over players like Matt Stafford, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh Freeman and in some cases Matt Moore. Needless to say some fantasy teams could be in a little bit of trouble this weekend.  All four players could provide you with a solid performances but there's a greater chance that at least two and maybe even three will cost you a win.  It's a tough pill... read more

Week 7: QB Ranks & Writeups

Posted by in Quarterbacks on Oct 22nd 2010 and last modified on Oct 23rd 2010. (Print This)

We have two marquee quarterback match ups this weekend.  Game number one features two NFC East rivals with the Cowboys and Giants.  Romo has been solid all season and has posted very good overall fantasy numbers despite a poor team record.  He's a solid QB1 right now and I fully expect that to continue throughout the rest of the year.  Dallas is just to talented at wide out for them not be successful throwing the ball.  On the other hand we have Eli and the Giants.  Eli has played well and the Giants feature one of the most well balanced attacks in football.  It also doesn't hurt that Hakeem Nicks had made the leap to the next level and the other Steve Smith is starting to look like the only Steve Smith.  This one should be good so get your pop corn ready. In San... read more

Week 6: Quarterback Rankings

Rivers takes over the top spot in my week 6 rankings.  He has been better than I expected and he should keep it going this weekend against a young Rams defense.  I also have Eli Manning ranked in my top 5 this week.  He hasn't been perfect, but the Giants offense has the play makers and ability to put up a ton of yardage and points on a weekly basis.  I fully expect the Giants offense to operate on all cylinders against the Lions this weekend. This weeks marquee match up will take place in New England when the Patriots face off against the Ravens.  Baltimore is arguably the best team in football.  Flacco should be able to post solid passing totals if the Baltimore coaching staff allows him to throw enough.  The Ravens are so good on offense they can... read more

Ladies & Gentlemen: Start your engines!

This week all eyes will be on Randy Moss and the Vikings.  I really like this move for the Vikings who were in desperate need for receiver help.  Moss adds a dimension that should help open up the entire offense.  Harvin can return to his natural slot position and Peterson will face less eight man fronts.  It's win win for everyone.  Even though I love the move for the Vikings I still don't think Favre is a great play against the Jets defense this weekend.  Give Favre this Sunday and a full week of practice before inserting him into your starting line up. The other big news this week is Kevin Kolbs return to the starting spot for the Eagles.  I know he didn't look comfortable in his relief appearance against the Redskins but he should be much better this weekend.  Look for him to try and utilize Maclin and Jacksons... read more

The top story in week 4 is McNabb's return to Philadelphia.  The Eagles parted ways with the franchise quarterback this off season to open the door for Kevin Kolb.  Kolb who had tremendous upside but was largely unknown as a starter, suffered a concussion in the second quarter of week 1.  What happened next might be blessing in disguise for the Eagles as Michael Vick got a chance to show his worth.  He not only proved his worth, but he has been lights out since taking over for Kolb and has emerged as a legitimate QB1.  On the other side McNabb has proven just how important it is to have a solid signal caller leading your team.  He has been solid so far for the Skins who have played well despite being 1-2 overall.  Time will tell if the Eagles made the right decision... read more

1ST Look: Week 4 QB Ranks

Week 4 is upon us.  Week 4 starts the beginning of the dreaded bye weeks.  This week teams will be without Tony Romo, Brett Favre, Josh Freeman and Matt Cassel.  Luckily for most owners, Romo is the only quarterback worthy of starting who is off this week.  For Favre, Freeman and Cassel, the bye couldn't come at a better time.  All three quarterbacks could benefit from the extra work and practice. I will continue to rank Peyton Manning first.  He is playing the position at the highest of levels, and we are fortnate to have the opportunity to watch him on a weekly basis.  Vick has looked like the player we thought he could be when he came out of Virginia Tech.  At this point, I'm wondering if he'll ever come down to earth.  His ability to get the ball down the field with his arm strenght has been almost... read more

Week 3: Quarterback Rankings

Ladies & Gentlemen: Start your engines!

Last week was nothing short of  crazy for the quarterback position.  Vince Young, David Garrad, Jason Campbell, Trent Edwards, Matt Morre and Derek Anderson all got yanked in favor of their back ups.  Young and Garrard will get another shot this weekend, but Campbell and the others weren't as lucky.  The immortal Bruce Gradkoski has earned the chance to lead the Raiders.  Harvard alum Ryan Fitzpatrick will take over for the Bills, and rookie 2nd round pick Jimmy Clausen will make his first NFL start for the Panthers.  If that wasn't enough, Mark Sanchez outperformed Tom Brady.  We might have stumbled upon the quarterback apocalypse of 2010. The good news is, most of these players are irrelevant to fantasy nation.   But what about the ones who are?   Week 3 will be a true test to see if some of these guys can become legitimate weekly... read more

What a strange week for the quarterback position.  The only thing that looked normal was Peyton getting the better of his little brother Eli Sunday night. Vick might have played himself into a quarterback controversy.  Although the Eagles won't admit it, Vick could very well be this teams starting quarterback by week 5 if not sooner.  Jimmy Clausen will make his first NFL start against the Bengals.  Vince Young and Jason Campbell were both benched Sunday.  Mark Sanchez out performed Tom Brady and Kyle Orton looks like a top 12 quarterback.  Lets hope week three is a little friendlier to the quarterbacks. 1) Peyton Manning - IND - QB, at Denver Broncos, Sun 4:15 PM 2) Drew Brees - NOR - QB, vs. Atlanta Falcons, Sun 1:00 PM 3) Tom Brady - NEP - QB, vs. Buffalo Bills, Sun 1:00 PM 4) Matt Schaub - HOU -... read more
