The NFL has kicked off a new season and that means it is officially fantasy football time. Now that HBO's Hard Knocks are in full swing, it's only fitting that the Jets take the top spot in our team defense rankings. Philosophies differ when it comes to taking a team defense.  Of course, it all depends on your league format and scoring.  In some league formats, a team defense can finish in the top 10 in overall scoring.  These types of leagues make team defenses more valuable.  We always preach waiting until the later rounds before selecting one.  Our thought is that you can find an... read more

2010 July D/ST Ranks

Posted by Rob in Defenses,Rank,Ranks on Jun 29th 2010 and last modified on Jul 2nd 2010. (Print This)

Many people downplay the fact that getting a good defense/special teams (D/ST) can help out your fantasy squad. Truth be told many of these fantasy D/ST's will disappoint and not match their rankings. The importance of a D/ST to your squad is invaluable in the sense that they can make up points when your other players struggle. Now I'm not saying you go ahead and be the first one to draft a D/ST on draft day, I said they are important, not that important. I subscribe to the belief that a D/ST should be taken within the last two rounds of your draft. Solid D/ST's can still be found believe it or not. I'm sure we all remember last year's preseason fantasy darlings the Pittsburgh Steelers. Where did they end up when all was said and done and how many people wasted high draft picks on them... read more

Fantasy Football Brothers has an eye on the NFL Playoffs. Many fantasy owners are Playoff Leagues rookies, but it is easy and fun to do. There are no moves to be monitored and you only set your lineup once. Your wife/girlfriend won't even realize your Fantasy Football season is still going, as long as you don't let the cat out of the bag.  Fantasy Football Brothers takes a look at the Defense/Special Team rankings for 2009 Playoff Leagues and these rankings are done by a last man standing type rules. This of course means the highest ranked players we believe will go the furthest in the NFL Playoffs. If you own the Saints D/ST and they are knocked out, you are done getting points. While we don't think this will be the case, you never know, anything can happen in the post-season. Playoff Leagues draft only one player at a position and no... read more

Willis and Co. lead the Week 17 D/ST Ranks.

It's the season finale and it's also the close of the fantasy season for most, unless you play the fantasy playoff season that is. The D/ST's units have been a crapshoot this year and I hope most of you remember that when it comes draft time next year. There is no need to go out and spend a high draft pick on a D/ST unit, they can be found, and matchups can be played. For those of you in your final games it must be tough being in a league where the championship is played in Week 17 where players will undoubtedly be sitting. Simply Electric!

Fantasy Football Brothers goes into Week 16 with our ears pinned back and our hair on fire. This is the week we have been looking forward to the whole season. This is it, the big one, the one where you collect your title and reap the rewards as you bask in the glory of fantasy greatness. Week 16 offers alot of good matchups in the NFL as teams are scrambling to fill the last playoff spots. Some of the more notable games this week are the San Diego Chargers at Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins, New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos at Philadelphia Eagles. One of the games flying under the radar this week is the Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the New England Patriots in Foxboro. The Patriots have been offensively challenged their last four games and have... read more

WEEK 16 D/ST RANKS (HOLIDAY EDITION)

Posted by admin in Defenses,Ranks on Dec 23rd 2009 and last modified on Dec 25th 2009. (Print This)
Adrian Wilson and Co. will bring the pain this week against the St. Louis Rams.

It's Week 16 and there have been some really odd performances by defenses lately. Case in point last week with the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, two of the leagues better defenses and 73 points were put on the board. Defenses are alot like kickers in that aspect, a crapshoot, which is why we recommend drafting them late in your draft. All those people that spent a high draft pick on the Steelers D/ST know what I'm talking about. The Arizona Cardinals get the nod as Fantasy Football Brother's top unit this week and I wouldn't be surprised to see them throw up a donut, or is it doughnut this week against the St. Louis Rams and their Ryan Leaf prodigy Keith Null. For those of you that don't know, Null attended West Texas... read more

WEEK 15 D/ST RANKS (PLAYOFF EDITION)

Posted by admin in Defenses,Fantasy Advice,Ranks on Dec 17th 2009 and last modified on Dec 18th 2009. (Print This)

It's Week 15 and for most people that means it is the second round of your fantasy playoffs. As owners we are one step away from the prize pool, so this truly is a make or break week. Having a good D/ST's is magnified this time of year as they can net you bonus points in your league, points that can help you out if players in other areas have stumbled. The sleeper defense last week was the San Francisco 49ers who dismantled the Arizona Cardinals last week. Fantasy Football Brother's number one defense this week is the Denver Broncos who take on the Oakland Raiders at Mile High Stadium. Have a sit/start, or waiver wire question? – Send it in. Worth the Risk?

Fantasy Football Brothers cruises into Week 15, so get on board, this is a big week for fantasy owners. This is the week that is do or die, no one wants to be left out of their leagues prize pool. In Week 15 there are many concerns with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. Will they or won't they rest their players? It's the time that teams think about getting healthy for the playoffs, and for fantasy owners there is no worse time. One player we received alot of questions about was Joseph Addai of the Colts. In my opinion he is a "risky" play going into the Jacksonville game because he has a banged up knee. The Colts may choose to go with a tandem of Mike Hart and Chad Simpson, my advice would be to play it safe if you have other suitable starting... read more

The Colts will look to remain perfect.

Thursday night looks like a classic mismatch at first glance. Many NFL fans will instantly think the Colts win in a blowout. Looking further into the numbers, Fantasy Football Brothers thinks there is one team that is great at one thing and another that is pretty well balanced offensively. That doesn't mean they don't have certain deficiencies that can't be exploited though. The Indianapolis Colts come into this game with the number one passing offense in the NFL. It's no secret, Peyton Manning and his wide receivers of Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, and Austin Collie are special. That goes without even mentioning one of the leagues top pass catching tight ends in Dallas Clark. Sprinkle in Joseph Addai catching balls out of the backfield and they are nearly unstoppable. With that said, the Colts are ranked 28th in the league in rushing. They are... read more

Moats is relevant again in Week 14.

Fantasy Football Brothers welcomes you to the playoffs. It's Week 14 and all the hard work you have done to get to this point is finally here. You as fantasy owners have guided your team through injuries, suspensions, and owning any player on the Oakland Raiders. Now it is time for all that hard work to pay off. There are some big games in Week 14 and some of the more notable matchups include Denver at Indianapolis, Cincinnati at Minnesota,  San Diego at Dallas, and Philadelphia at the New York Giants. All the games this time of year are must wins for teams looking to make that final playoff push or secure home field advantage in the playoffs. As fantasy owners we have to be cautious at this point in the season to back ourselves up in case teams that have... read more
