Week 16: QB Ranks

Posted by in Quarterbacks on Dec 25th 2010 (Print This)

Week 16 finds us deep in a whirlwind of football and holiday cheer.  All the excitement going on is almost to much to take all at once.  We should have asked Santa to postpone Christmas a week, just so we can focus on football.  I'm opening my gifts and all I can think about is Jon Kitna!  Will he play good enough to win me a title?  I'm hopeful he will.  And hopefully the rest of you have been good boys and girls and are playing for a fantasy title or two.  The excitement and anticipation leading up to a championship game is almost as nerve racking as waiting at the top of your stairs on Christmas morning.  Just sitting there waiting for the go ahead to run down and rip open your presents.  It didn't matter if I had to run over my sisters,... read more

1st Look: Week 16 QB Ranks

With each passing week fantasy nation continues to trek deeper and deeper into the playoffs.  Some owners get lucky enough to advance while others fall victim to the cruel fate that only this game can provide.  I know the Adrian Peterson decision absolutely destroyed fantasy teams across the nation last night.  It's a gut wrenching feeling that can ruin an owners season in an instance.  A wonderful dream season turned to crap just like that.  How many A.P. owners yelled at their wives, girlfriends, kids or in some cases pets last night?  They did nothing wrong but get in the path of a fantasy train wreck.  And why didn't A.P. tweet something and let us know he wasn't going to play?  Doesn't he play fantasy football?  Wouldn't the $25,000 dollar fine he would have received for... read more

1st Look: Waivers

With the playoffs in full force throughout fantasy nation, teams will no doubt need a boost from their leagues waiver wire.  If your an Aaron Rodgers owner, you'll probably need to add another quarterback to get through this week.  Jon Kitna, Josh Freeman and Jason Campbell are three signal callers who could provide you with a bridge to make it through. The big news from week 14 was the explosion of running backs that most owners seamed to have  on their benches.  Tim Hightower and Ryan Torain had great weeks which will most likely make them the most sought after free agents in fantasy nation. One strategy owners need to consider is adding players even if they don't need them.  If my opponent needs a running back or quarterback and I have waiver priority, I'll select... read more

Rain, Snow or Shine! You can always count on Brady.

Brady was almost unstoppable in the snow against the Bears on Sunday.  He should be the clear cut favorite to win the MVP award this season. Rodgers going down with a concussion was an absolute killer for fantasy teams.  If you somehow managed to pull out a win despite his lack of production you should probably look in a different direction this week.  As of this moment he is doubtful to face the Patriots.  If you did survive Week 14 and are in need of a solid signal caller this week you should consider Jon Kitna and Jason Campbell.  Both players are at home and have favorable match ups.  Vick threw for 270 yards Sunday night against the Cowboys.  A whopping 210 of them went to DeSean Jackson.  Vicks agilityhas allowed him to remain in the pocket long enough to let his receivers get free and break... read more

Week 14: QB Ranks and Writeups(Fantasy Playoff Edition)

Peyton Manning proved yet again how important it is to have an elite signal caller leading your team.  After Thursday nights outing Peyton owner's have the luxury of heading into Sunday with a comfortable lead. Again, it's why we preach the importance of drafting or trading for a top quarterback.  We know we can rely on Vick, Brady, Rivers, Rodgers and Brees, but what about all the others?  After these five signal callers can we really trust anyone.  This week Kyle Orton and Joe Flacco make solid starts but that doesn't mean they don't come with question marks. How will the coaching change in Denver affect Orton and the offense? Can we expect more Knowshon Moreno? In Baltimore will Flacco continue to air it out against a bad Texans secondary? Or will the Ravens lean on Ray Rice... read more

1ST LOOK: Week 13 Waivers

With the fantasy playoffs just around the corner owner's of Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson realized the cruel fate that is fantasy football.  In one instance your elite running back can be lost for the season.  If your a Gore owner there is nothing wrong with entering into full fledged panic mode.  As most of you already know Gore was lost for the year after suffering a hip injury on Monday night.  Peterson owners fared a little better as he's set to return this week after suffering what's reported as an ankle sprain. Your league's waiver wire should have been pretty quiet over the last few weeks.  However, this week should be a little different.  Most owner's will be scrambling to pick up Toby Gerhart, Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon.  All three backs will make... read more

1St Look: Waivers

Most leagues waiver wires should be pretty thin at this point in the season.  With the playoffs just around the corner most owners should be adding the final pieces to their playoff rosters.  Now is not the time to sit on your hands.  Owners need to remain active and pay attention to injuries and other relevant player news.  Sure you might be set at receiver, but what if Malcom Floyd is available?  Add players who could have an impact even though you may not need them today.  Things change quickly in the NFL.  Another thing to consider is adding players who could become fantasy relevant down the stretch.  Try and look ahead and add players who could have a chance to make an impact later in the season.  Guys like Tashard Choice could get an opportunity in weeks 15 and 16 to prove... read more

Brees and the Saints look to come out firing on all cylinders after the bye.

With everyone in the free world focusing on the Michael Vick Experience, we failed to mention another incredible feat that took place in week 10.  Thirteen quarterbacks threw for over 300 yards, and that list doesn’t include Peyton Manning.  That’s a ton, especially when you take into consideration that Rodgers, Rivers and Brees all had the week off.  What’s even more remarkable, is that four other signal callers missed the 300 mark by a combined 18 yards.  It’s a true testament to just how deep the quarterback positions is this year. The fact is, the NFL is without question a pass first league. 1) Michael Vick - PHI - QB, vs. New York Giants, Thu 8:20 PM Vick was literally unstoppable against the Redskins on Monday night. His ability to create plays on almost every snap seamed... read more

1St Look: Waivers

Most of your leagues waiver wires are probably pretty thin at this point in the season.  Only major injuries to starters would catapult someone into fantasy relevance, and none of us want to see that happen.  However, there are a couple of players who could have a major impact just in time for your leagues playoffs.  Vincent Jackson is due back in week 12 and Sidney Rice could be available around the same time.  Both were considered top 12 wide outs heading into the season.  The difference in the two, is that Jackson is healthy and hungry, while Rice is trying to come back from hip surgery.  Jackson signed his tender and will be available after he serves his 3 game suspension.  That's just in time for the fantasy playoffs.  If your team is in good shape and your bound... read more

Week 8 could prove to be a tough one for fantasy owners.  Teams will already be without Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Eli Manning, Kevin Kolb, MichaelVick  and Jay Cutler due to the bye week.  Tony Romo could be lost for eight weeks or longer (sorry Rob) and Favre is dealing with multiple fractures in his ankle, and could miss Sundays tilt with the Patriots.  Speaking of the Patriots.  How bad did Tom Brady and the offense look on Sunday?  They need to play much better than that if Brady is going to help you win a title. I know Orton is a top 3 fantasy quarterback, but do the Broncos hand the reins over to Tim Tebow if the team keeps losing?  Owners need to ask themselves, do I Sell high or ride it out?  The Broncos will be playing in London this weekend and need... read more
