A wild week 10 is in the books. Injuries to Matt Schaub, Michael Vick and Denver’s backfield will force owners back to the wire. Hopefully most of you took our pre- season advice and drafted an adequate back up to both Vick and Schaub. I listed a couple signal callers who could help stop the bleeding, and hopefully keep your team on track to a fantasy title.
As always, we urge you to take advantage of our Ask A Question Feature. We are available 24/7 to provide you with any advice you may need on your way to a title.
Wide Receivers
Earl Bennett – CHI – WR, vs. San Diego Chargers, Sun 4:15 PM
Bennett had 6 receptions for 81 yards on 6 targets. It’s worth noting that this was a blowout, and Cutler only completed 9 passes for 123 yards. The Bears offense is playing well right now and Bennett has the look of a solid WR2. He should be added in all formats.
Laurent Robinson – DAL – WR, at Washington Redskins, Sun 1:00 PM
As long as Miles Austin is out, Robinson has value. He was only targeted three times but he made the most of them catching all 3 passes for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Cowboys offense is built around the big play and Robinson is a big play waiting to happen. He’s capable of filling the void left by Austin, but he will be the fourth option on the Cowboys offense so don’t expect huge weekly numbers. Solid add in leagues with 12 or more teams.
Denarius Moore – OAK – WR, at Minnesota Vikings, Sun 1:00 PM
Moore caught 5 passes for 123 yards and 2 Tds. He was targeted 7 times on the night. Moore made plays all over the field and looks like he is starting to develop decent chemistry with Carson Palmer. He could be the Raiders most productive wide out going forward.
Jacoby Ford – OAK – WR, at Minnesota Vikings, Sun 1:00 PM
Ford has been a little injury prone but produces when he’s on the field. He had 1 reception for 41 yards. 2 targets. If healthy he’s worth a look in deeper leagues.
Jerome Simpson – CIN – WR, at Baltimore Ravens, Sun 1:00 PM
Simpson needs a healthy A.J. Green to keep the attention off of him. He’s better suited as the Bengals #3 option behind Green and Gresham. He makes for an inconsistent WR3, but he’s still worth a look in deeper leagues. He has a knack for getting open in the redzone.
Andre Caldwell – CIN – WR, at Baltimore Ravens, Sun 1:00 PM
Caldwell had 3 receptions for 28 yards. He was targeted a team high 8 times, but that had more to do with Ike Taylor and A.J. Greens absence than anything else. If Green misses time, consider Caldwell a low end WR3 in deeper leagues.
Steve Smith – PHI – WR, at New York Giants, Sun 8:20 PM
Smith lead all Eagles wide outs with 10 targets. He caught 5 of them for 47 yards. The Eagles offense is a mess. Add in injuries to Vick, Maclin and the immaturity of Jackson, and this team looks to be sinking rather quickly. Smith should provide low end WR3 numbers if given the opportunity.
Running Back
Lance Ball – DEN – RB, vs. New York Jets, Thu 8:20 PM
I jumped on the Lance Ball train three weeks ago. Unfortunately, since then I have dropped him in two leagues and traded him in another. Ball is the last man standing in the Broncos running attack. He received 30 carries for 96 yards against the Chiefs after McGahee and Knowshon went down. He’s an unspectacular add, but he’ll see some carries with Knowshon Moreno done for the season. Willis McGahee is on track to start but Ball will be 2nd in line for carries. He should be added in 10 team leagues or larger. I would be careful using him this Thursday Night vs. the Jets. He’s probably a little worn down after his 30 carry performance. I don’t know when the last time he had 30 carries was, but going against the Jets on short rest doesn’t look like a recipe for success.
Jeremiah Johnson – DEN – RB, vs. New York Jets, Thu 8:20 PM
Johnson should be signed from the practice squad to fill the #2 running back spot for the Broncos. He’ll get an opportunity as long as McGahee is out. He’s worth a flier in deeper leagues.
Danny Ware – NYG – RB, vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Sun 8:20 PM
Ware was on the field a lot against the 49ers top ranked defense. He carried 9 times for 34 yards and added 5 receptions for another 34 yards. He had 6 targets out of the backfield. As long as Bradshaw is out, Ware has value as a low end flex play. He gets a slight bump in PPR formats.
Tight End
Jake Ballard – NYG – TE, vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Sun 8:20 PM
The tight end position is deeper than it’s been. It is not filled with elite prospects, but steady pass catchers who can produce decent and consistent numbers on a weekly basis. Ballard had 3 receptions for 25 yards on 4 targets.
Jermaine Gresham – CIN – TE, at Baltimore Ravens, Sun 1:00 PM
Gresham is healthy and it showed. He had 4 receptions for 23 yards and 1 Td on 5 targets. If Green misses any time, Gresham would become the Bengals top option. He’s a decent low end TE1 going forward.
Ed Dickson – BAL – TE, vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Sun 1:00 PM
Dickson blew up on Sunday. He had 10 receptions for 79 yards and 2 TDs. He received a league high 14 targets. Dickson will remain an inconsistent option at the tight end position, but this was certainly a positive sign. Both Baltimore tight ends are getting more involved in the offense.
Dennis Pitta – BAL – TE, vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Sun 1:00 PM
Pitta has quietly produced in the Ravens passing game. He had 4 receptions for 49 yards on 7 targets. He’s worth a look in deeper leagues that use multiple tight ends.
Quarterback
Carson Palmer – OAK – QB, at Minnesota Vikings, Sun 1:00 PM
With Schaub, Vick and Cassel all sustaining injuries, Mr.Palmer is going to become a hot commodity on the waiver wire. Against a decent Chargers defense he went 14-20 for 299 yards with 2 Tds and 1 int. He looks for comfortable each week and is worth a roster spot as a QB2 with upside.
John Skelton – ARI – QB, at San Francisco 49ers, Sun 4:05 PM
His stat line looked okay at the end of the day considering the match up. The second year man went 21-40 for 315 yards with 3 Tds and 2 Ints. That could easily have been 2 Tds and 4 Ints. The Eagles secondary dropped a few balls that would have altered Skeltons stat line. However, he appears a lot more comfortable than Kolb, and could offer decent value in two quarterback leagues.
