Every week another group of players emerge as potential saviors for your fantasy franchise. The Brotherhood weeds out all of the trash so that you can find the fantasy cash. This week we have some potential must own RB handcuffs that have emerged after more RBs were lost due to injury in week 8.
Kansas City Chiefs
Jon Baldwin – KAN – WR, vs. Miami Dolphins, Sun 1:00 PM
Baldwin’s career got off to a very rocky start after getting into a fist fight with a team mate during training camp. The rookie ended up missing the first 5 games of the season. Last night he was finally able to put on display his talent that had made him a first round pick in this year’s draft. Baldwin dominated last night playing in the slot, wreaking havoc on the Chargers secondary. Baldwin is worth a roster spot in deep leagues.
Matt Cassel – KAN – QB, vs. Miami Dolphins, Sun 1:00 PM
After barely passing a combined 250 yards in the first two games of the season, Cassel has turned around his game. He has thrown for over 1100 yards and 8 touchdown passes in his next five games. He still throws too many ints.(5 in that time frame)He has played well enough to finish as a top 15 QB. He faces 6 passing defenses that are ranked 19th or worse in his next 8 games. Cassel is worth a roster spot in 10 team or deeper leagues.
Oakland Raiders
Michael Bush – OAK – RB, vs. Denver Broncos, Sun 4:05 PM
While Bush is owned in over 80% of all ESPN leagues, he has been playing well as McFadden’s backup. With McFadden’s availability up in the air for week 9, Bush becomes a must own in all formats.
Darrius Heyward-Bey – OAK – WR, vs. Denver Broncos, Sun 4:05 PM
We gushed about DHB in week 6 Heading into the bye week in week 8, Heywood-Bey had four straight games of over 82 yards receiving with four or more receptions. It appears that he is finally coming into his own in his third season. With Carson Palmer expected to take the reigns this week of the Raiders offense, DHB’s value can only go up. Heywood-Bey is a must own in all formats.
Philadelphia Eagles
Brent Celek – PHI – TE, vs. Chicago Bears, Mon 8:30 PM
Celek the one time Fantasy Football Brothers super sleeper has largely disappeared in the Eagles offense after Mike Vick earned the starting job. His 2010 numbers were almost cut right in half compared to the 2009 season. Now in 2011 Celek has emerged as Vick’s go to guy after opposing defenses are bracketing the outside receivers. Celek now has 136 yards receiving on 11 receptions and two scores over the last two games. We expect Celek to be the dump off guy as long as defenses are concentrating on WRs Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson. Celek is someone to keep an eye on and makes a serviceable bye week fill in.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Antonio Brown – PIT – WR, vs. Baltimore Ravens, Sun 8:20 PM
Brown has shown flashes this season and with Hines Ward out in week 8, Brown saw his most action of his young career. Over the last two games Brown has 16 receptions and 169 yards receiving and a score. In week 8 fellow WR Emmanuel Sanders suffered a foot injury allowing Brown for even more potential playing time. Brown is roster worthy in 10 team leagues or deeper.
San Diego Chargers
Curtis Brinkley – SDC – RB, vs. Green Bay Packers, Sun 4:15 PM
Brinkley entered last nights game when Ryan Mathews left with an apparent groin injury. With Mike Tolbert already out with a concussion, Brinkley not only saw some playing time but made some noise with his limited carries. He scored a touchdown and converted a two point conversion on top of his 43 yards rushing and two receptions for 24 yards. With both starting Chargers backs status up in the air, Brinkley becomes a must own for Mathews and Tolbert owners as a handcuff.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kregg Lumpkin – TAM – RB, at New Orleans Saints, Sun 1:00 PM
Now that Earnest Graham is lost for the season, Lumpkin should inherit Graham’s passing down role at the minimum and could see more action if Blount is 100%. Blount could start as the passing down back but struggled mightily with blitz pickup at the beginning of the season. Lumpkin is worth a waiver wire bid if you are a Blount owner or playing in deeper leagues.
Tennessee Titans
Javon Ringer – TEN – RB, vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Sun 4:05 PM
As we remarked in our 1ST LOOK: RB ranks, something is wrong with Chris Johnson. Ringer has been the better back all season and his performance has earned him more playing time. Ringer becomes a must own for any Chris Johnson owner and must own in all formats.
Washington Redskins
Tashard Choice – WAS – RB, vs. San Francisco 49ers, Sun 1:00 PM
Choice was cut by the Cowboys and picked up by Washington. Choice was deemed expendable after DeMarco Murray’s break out performance. Choice will miss week 9 due to an injury, but there is no one better at picking up RBs and making them stars than Mike Shanahan. Choice is worth a stash in 12 team leagues or deeper because you just never know with Washington.
