Tuedays means we take a 1ST Look at the Waivers. As we continue to sort out the huge amount of injuries that occurred during week 8. We drop some names that could be useful for patching up any holes emerging on your roster. Owners that dominate their leagues are the ones that make smart waiver wire moves and replace dead weight and injured players with players that are performing well. Owners have a tough time knowing when it is time to cut bait with someone that isn’t performing. Don’t be that owner that sticks with a player based on where you drafted him. Draft positions get thrown right out the window once the first game of the season starts. When making trade offers I often find owners over valuing players that were drafted high for the mere fact that they were in fact drafted high.
Arizona Cardinals
Alfonso Smith – ARI – RB
Smith has become the defacto back if Beanie Wells is indeed injured. There have been conflicting reports around the severity of the injury suffered. Smith will have his work cut out for him this week with a game against the stout Ravens Run-D.
Smith is worth a bye week fill in deeper leagues.
Cincinnati Bengals
Bernard Scott – CIN – RB
Scott becomes the starter this week as Cedric Benson serves his one game suspension after having it reduced from 3 games. Scott has been a big disappointment for the Bengals since being drafted as the heir apparent to Benson. Scott has scored only two touchdowns in his career and has never rushed for more than 321 yards in a season. Scott is a must own in 10 team or deeper leagues.
Denver Broncos
Lance Ball – DEN – RB
Ball becomes the backup to Knowshon Moreno who will assume the starting duties while Willis McGahee deals with a hand injury. Ball could be in store for more action than anticipated since Moreno has shown time and again that he can’t handle being the bell cow. Ball is worth a pick up in larger leagues and is a good handcuff to either Broncos Back.
Minnesota Vikings
Michael Jenkins – MIN – WR
Jenkins is quickly becoming one of the better sleepers at the receiver position. He has gone unnoticed for the most part but with the Vikings parting ways with Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin being constantly injured Jenkins has become the go to guy in Minnesota. Jenkins is a must own in all leagues.
New Orleans Saints
Pierre Thomas – NOR – RB
Thomas has been the other back that has received little fan fare with Darren Sproles lighting up defenses and Mark Ingram being the highly touted rookie. Sproles has emerged as the number one eating up defenses through the air and Ingram has been seeing the most carries. Thomas has quietly done both aspects of catching and running the rock very well. With Ingram potentially injured Thomas could see his carries increase significantly. Thomas is a must own in all formats.
Oakland Raiders
Michael Bush – OAK – RB
How bad Darren McFadden’s injury really is won’t be known for a while, as the Raiders head to the bye week. Bush is a more than capable back and would start for many teams across the NFL. Bush has size, decent speed and good hands and would have no problem carrying the load for Oakland. Bush is a must own in all leagues.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Antonio Brown – PIT – WR
To one of our most loyal subscribers this one is for you. Brown could be in for seeing an increase in production and snaps if Hines Wards misses anytime. Brown will also be auditioning for the number two spot at receiver over fellow youngster WR Emmanuel Sanders. Brown is worth a look in deeper PPR leagues if Hines Ward is going to miss anytime.
Seattle Seahawks
Leon Washington – SEA – RB
Washington got the nod when Marshawn Lynch was scratched with a bad back right before the Seahawks were to kickoff. Washington performed just ok finishing with 7 carries 39 yards and 4 receptions for 10 yards, While Washington got the nod, Justin Forsett is lurking in the background and will be given a shot if Washington can’t get it going. Washington is worth a look in deeper PPR leagues.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kregg Lumpkin – TAM – RB
Lumpkin is next in line if LaGarrette Blount is not ready in week 9. Earnest Graham was lost for the season after his second carry of the game. Lumpkin was unimpressive running the rock in Graham’s absence but did haul in 6 passes for 37 yards. Lumpkin has value in deeper leagues and is a must own for Blount owners.
Washington Redskins
Roy Helu – WAS – RB
Helu has once again made the waiver wire list. This time because he will see a large increase in snaps after Tim Hightower was lost for the season. Helu is the passing down back and with Torain expected to see starter snaps, Helu will see more action because Torain is lacking in blitz pick up. Helu is a must own in all formats.
Jabar Gaffney – WAS – WR
Gaffney should see increased targets with the loss of Santana Moss for up to 7 weeks. Both Gaffney and Anthony Armstrong both should see a jump in their receptions and yardage. Gaffney has quietly had a better than average season posting around top 50 receiving numbers. Good enough to be a WR3 in deeper leagues. Gaffney is worth a look in 12 team leagues or deeper.
