Week 8 QB Ranks

Posted by in Fantasy Advice on Oct 29th 2011 (Print This)

Week 8 marks the half way point of the season.  As expected we are starting to see significant separation between the quarterback tiers.  It all depends on your scoring format, but the first tier quarterbacks are averaging roughly 10-15 more points per game than the second tier.  We can expect this trend to continue going forward.  Speaking of the first tier quarterbacks; Drew Brees should put on a clinic vs. the lowly Rams... Super Rookie Cam Newton will take some shots from Jared Allen and the rest of the Vikings pass rush, but they rank 29th against the pass.  Expect Newton to have another solid all around outing...  I'm never worried about Tom Brady and the Patriots offense, but a week off can sometimes disrupt an offenses rhythm.  It will be important for Brady to have some early success to help him... read more

Fantasy Football Brother's takes a peek at the Week 8 Tight End Ranks. There are some notable TE's with bye weeks this week that includes: Tony Gonzalez (Falcons), Jermichael "Bust" Finley (Packers), Dustin Keller (Jets), and Kellen Winslow (Bucs). We were spot on with Jimmy Graham last week against the Colts. We would say 6 receptions for 54 yards with 2 TD's satisfied owner's last week. Graham continues to be a "beast" and he plays with a quarterback and coach who understand how to utilize his freakish abilities. This week we have Jason Witten as our top TE choice. The Eagles in the past had the linebackers that could do a decent job on Witten. This season that has been a position of concern for the Eagles. The Brother's don't see how they can address Witten doing his best work in the middle of the field with a healthy... read more

Week 8 RB Ranks

We enter week 8 dealing with all sort of things that have been making a mess of your fantasy squad. Things like bye weeks, injuries and then the under performers. There have been some disappointing RBs this season but that is to be expected. This happens every season. The majority of time you can almost always categorize the reasons for under-performing into two categories.  Injuries and age. Then there is the third category. The there is something very wrong but we don't know what category. Titans Chris Johnson is the epitome of this last group. Currently Chris Johnson is 32nd in the NFL in rushing with 268 yards, only 2 yards ahead of QB Cam Newton. Rookie RB DeMarco Murray ran for 253 yards in week 7. Johnson's 44 yards per game is good enough to rank 32nd. his 2.9 yards per carry... read more

Hakeem Nicks returns from the bye healthy - just in time to punish a struggling Miami secondary. Nicks is good for 100 yards and a score. Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz are playing well enough to spread defensive attention. His counterparts may alternate big games, but Nicks will remain consistent. Eli Manning is a solid trade target. Nicks should have his way this Sunday. Mike Wallace lands the No. 1 spot in a very favorable match-up vs. the Patriots. New England has let up the most fantasy points to opposing receivers. Wallace will consistently hit he 100-yard mark, but his under-usage in the 2cnd halves of games this season is lowering his potential. Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown have matured well. If Hines Wards sits, look for Sanders to impress out of the slot. He's a sneaky play. Calvin... read more

Week 8 K and D/ST Rankings

Fantasy Football Brother's takes a look at the glorified soccer players and defensive units in Week 8. On a side note, if you haven't played FIFA '12, you really don't know what you are missing. It's one of the better sports games made in my opinion. The top 3 kicker's this week are the grandfather's of kicker's. It's safe to say they have been kicking for an average of about 20 years in the NFL. Okay, maybe not that much, but these guys have been around the block. The Baltimore Ravens are our top ranked D/ST heading into Week 8 and we'll see if they can actually outscore the anemic offense this week. By the way, was that one of the ugliest NFL games outside of the Seattle vs. Cleveland game? Here are the Kicker Ranks: 1) David Akers - SFO - KI, vs. Cleveland Browns, Sun 4:15 PM 2) John Kasay - NOR - KI,... read more

Owners are patiently waiting for the league's best to return. With Optimus Prime (Andre Johnson) out with injury. Megatron has taken a firm grasp of the Top spot on this list. AJ is expected to return to practice today. Will he play? Where will he fall in the ranks? We'll see how the week goes. Be sure to tune in Friday for our final ranks and write ups. Marques Colston has exploded back onto the fantasy scene. After struggling through the first quarter of the season with injury, New Orleans' stud WR returns to play, giving the Saints the injection of big-play ability it was lacking. The ceiling for this offense is extremely high. With TE Jimmy Graham creating mismatches and drawing defensive attention - Colston should find himself in more favorable scenarios. He has top-10 potential moving forward. Larry Fitzgerald falls out of... read more

Tuedays means we take a 1ST Look at the Waivers. As we continue to sort out the huge amount of injuries that occurred during week 8.  We drop some names that could be useful for patching up any holes emerging on your roster. Owners that dominate their leagues are the ones that make smart waiver wire moves and replace dead weight and injured players with players that are performing well. Owners have a tough time knowing when it is time to cut bait with someone that isn't performing.  Don't be that owner that sticks with a player based on where you drafted him. Draft positions get thrown right out the window once the first game of the season starts.  When making trade offers I often find owners over valuing players that were drafted high for the mere fact that they were in fact drafted high. Arizona Cardinals Alfonso Smith - ARI - RB Smith has become the... read more

1ST LOOK: RB Week 8

Posted by in Fantasy Advice on Oct 25th 2011 (Print This)

Forget the bye week blues, owners were suffering from the black and blue blues. I was also effected by this in week 7. To be more specific along with my two starting running back my fantasy season with friends just went down the toilet.  My chances of finishing .500 or better let alone winning my league with freinds was all but shot by 1:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon. I lost Marshawn Lynch before he even dressed for the game after being a late scratch and then I lose Earnest Graham for the season after just 3 measly touches. There were R.I.P. jokes about my team on the League message board, mostly sent in by me. You can only laugh when you get 3 touches from two of your starting RBs. There were a ton... read more

Brees went off Sunday night throwing for 325 yards and 5 TDs.  What I found impressive was his 88% completion percentage.  He might not throw 5 touch downs against the Rams, but we can expect a 30 point outing.   Newton comes in at #2 this week.  The Vikings pass rush will get to him, but they rank 29th against the pass.  Expect another solid outing for the rookie.   I really like Roethlisberger this week.  My only concern is the Patriots are coming off a bye, and two weeks to prepare usually stacks the chips in Belichicks favor. Stafford is banged up and coming off his worst outing of the season.  It's the first time he failed to reach the 200 yard mark.  The Lions have a nice match up vs the Broncos, but I wonder how effective he... read more
