With the fantasy playoffs just around the corner owner’s of Frank Gore and Adrian Peterson realized the cruel fate that is fantasy football. In one instance your elite running back can be lost for the season. If your a Gore owner there is nothing wrong with entering into full fledged panic mode. As most of you already know Gore was lost for the year after suffering a hip injury on Monday night. Peterson owners fared a little better as he’s set to return this week after suffering what’s reported as an ankle sprain.
Your league’s waiver wire should have been pretty quiet over the last few weeks. However, this week should be a little different. Most owner’s will be scrambling to pick up Toby Gerhart, Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon. All three backs will make for decent pick ups, but it should be noted that none of them should be considered elite options going forward. Gerhart should spell Peterson a little more than usual to keep him fresh but that could be it. The Westbrook, Dixon split could be a little different. Both backs looked good against the Cardinals on Monday night, but that’s not saying much. The Cardinals defense definitely leaves something to be desired. Westbrook could see the bulk of the carries, but Dixon is a good bet to see the goal line work. One would think that the 49ers will just run with the hot hand whether it be Dixon or Westbrook.
As always, if you have any questions regarding your team you should strongly consider taking advantage of our Season Pass. Our Ask a Question feature is one of the best Fantasy tools available. We are available 24/7 to bounce ideas off of and provide you with any support you may need. We put in the time because we know some of you can’t. It’s what we do and we love doing it.
1) Toby Gerhart – MIN – RB, vs. Buffalo Bills, Sun 1:00 PM
A.P. should be back this week but it could be on a limited basis. Gerhart did well filling in on Sunday and should have a solid outing against a bad Bills defense if A.P. is limited. He should be added in all formats and is a must handcuff for Peterson owners going forward.
2) Brian Westbrook – SFO – RB, at Green Bay Packers, Sun 1:00 PM
With news of Gore being out for the year, Brian Westbrook suddenly becomes fantasy relevant once again. Westbrook played well against the Cardinals on Monday night but expectations should be kept in check going forward. The Cardinals are a bad football team, and we shouldn’t expect Westbrook to produce RB1 numbers on a weekly basis. The presence of rookie Anthony Dixon further limits Westbrooks upside. With that being said, Westbrook should be a must add in all formats. He’ll make a solid flex play and he clearly has upside.
3) Anthony Dixon – SFO – RB, at Green Bay Packers, Sun 1:00 PM
The rookie out Mississippi State is sure to see his work load increase going forward. He’s a big back who’ll fit perfectly as the teams goal line back with Gore out for the year. I like his upside even more when you take into account Westbrooks age and injury history. Dixon is a must add in touchdown heavy leagues and should be added in most formats.
4) Blair White – IND – WR, vs. Dallas Cowboys, Sun 4:15 PM
I really like White going forward. The Colts offense runs through the slot receiver and that’s exactly were you’ll see White lined up. Collie could very well come back this week but the Colts should be hesitant to let him participate in any game action until he’s completely healthy. Until he is White is a solid WR3 with upside.
5) Jason Avant – PHI – WR, vs. Houston Texans, Thu 8:20 PM
Avant is the Eagles third receiver. The Eagles have one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL so Avant should be on your radar. With teams focusing on stopping D. Jackson Avant should see plenty of mismatches. He’s a sneaky WR3 option in deeper leagues.
6) Maurice Morris – DET – RB, vs. Chicago Bears, Sun 1:00 PM
Morris received 14 touches for 75 total yards and scored two touchdowns on a pair of one yard runs against the Patriots on thanksgiving. With Best constantly banged up Morris should be in line for more carries. He has always produced when given the opportunity and now he has the opportunity. He should be considered an option in deeper leagues if your in need of running back help.
7) Earl Bennett – CHI – WR, at Detroit Lions, Sun 1:00 PM
Bennett has emerged as one of Cutler’s top targets. However, that still doesn’t make him a consistent weekly option. He has only topped 5 receptions once this season and that came in week one. Bennetts role should remain the same and his value will be directly tied to his touchdown potential. The good news is that the Bears are using a more balanced offensive attack. This should lead to more play action passes that should bode well for his upside. He should only be added if your hurting at wide out in deeper leagues.
8) Jason Snelling – ATL – RB, at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sun 1:00 PM
Snelling has emerged as a legitimate weapon in the Falcons offense. If your hurting at running back Snelling could provide you with a boost in PPR formats as a low end RB3.
