It would seem that for some we are entering into unlucky week 13. For most of us we are a week away from the start of our playoff runs. The things that have unfolded in week 12, make week 13 a potential make or break week. Not necessarily because of wins and losses but because of who plays where. Not since week 1 of the NFL season has there been this many unknowns heading into a week let alone a week before the playoffs starts. (Playoffs!?!)
Frank Gore reportedly has a broken hip and will be out for the season. Nice news to wake up to this morning if you are a Gore owner. Brian Westbrook becomes a must own in every league, as does Anthony Dixon. Westbrook has the potential to allow an owner to steal a league title. Dixon might not see the carries that Westbrook does, but he should be getting the goal line looks. Throw in Westbrook’s injury history and Dixon becomes a nice piece of insurance for the playoffs.(More on that below)
Let’s start with Adrian Peterson going down, and Toby Gerhart popping in to salt the game away. The reports are that All Day just has an ankle sprain. Go get Gerhart now!! Losing your RB1 before the start of the playoffs can be devastating, so cover your back, get Gerhart even if you don’t own Peterson. Here is why. Even if you don’t need to start him, that also means you wouldn’t have to potentially face him. (Fantasy Insurance)
Chris Johnson was hurt by the fact that there might as well have been a pylon playing QB, because the Texans knew it would be run, run, run and proceeded to run blitz all day shutting down Johnson. Kerry Collins owners can not come back soon enough for C.J. owners.
Steven Jackson and Maurice Jones-Drew both came out during times when their back ups scored a touchdown. Both are a little more banged up than is being let on but they are still both very solid starters. Just something to keep an eye on.
Mike Tolbert, Mike Goodson and Christopher Ivory are all getting more carries do to injury. Tolbert will be handcuffed to Ryan Mathews but Tolbert should remain a must start RB2. Mike Goodson while performing very well will eventually and ultimately take a backseat to Jonathan Stewart. The problem is that Stewart is coming off his best game all season, so it is only natural that Goodson ride the pine. Goodson still remains a solid P.P.R. back, but his value truly hinges on J.Stew’s ability to perform well. Ivory is the power back in New Orleans, the problem is if New Orleans is in a close game, they don’t run as many power running sets as they do spreading the field. Reggie Bush is finally back further muddying the Saints backfield situations. To make matters worse is Pierre Thomas is still lurking around stealing a roster spot. All of these situation are not something that you want to have to worry about the week before the playoffs.
