Week 1 Tight End Ranks

1) Antonio Gates – SDC – TE
A healthy Gates should produce another great year for fantasy owners in 2010. I expect his targets to increase with V Jack out, and with Mathews unproven in the backfield.

Look for Gates to have an impact in Week 1 and beyond.

2) Dallas Clark – IND – TE
The best offense in football should continue to utilize Clark’s cathing abilities. His preseason injury concerns still linger, but we expect him to be healthy and have a solid game against Houston.

3) Jermichael Finley – GRE – TE
Finley continues to be a fantasy favorite going into 2010. With Rodgers looking his way, and fresh memories of the end of 2009, we expect J-Fin to start off where he left off. If he can stay healthy, he could easily crack the top 5 this year.

4) Jason Witten – DAL – TE
Although he is coming off a bad year, he is one of the best in the business. If one of the WR’s can establish themselves (Dez Bryant?) then that should relieve some of the defensive pressure on Witten. The Redskins should provide many opportunities for the big guy, but it may be a Running game for Dallas in Week 1 as they build up some momentum.

5) Vernon Davis – SFO – TE
Davis says he’s ready to go even with an early preseason knee injury. A home opener against a rebuilt Seattle team is just what the doctor ordered!

6) Zach Miller – OAK – TE
Zack could be the best passing option in Oakland again this season. Jason Campbell loves to utilize his TE, so this may be a match made in heaven. The jury is still out, but we have big expectations from Miller in 2010!

7) Tony Gonzalez – ATL – TE
With gonzo anouncing that this will be his last year in the NFL prior to the beginning of the season, I question where is head is at? Hopefully he will light it up with Matt Ryan and go out with a bang!! My gut says he may struggle this season with injuries as he gets ready for retirement.

8) Brent Celek – PHI – TE
Celek was a Fantasy Brothers favorite last season, and he proved why. With Kolb taking the helm this year his numbers may drop off a bit, but it’s a wait and see with this new offense. A tough week 1 matchup against Green Bay should give us a good indication as to how Brent’s new offense will look in 2010.

9) Kellen Winslow – TAM – TE
Winslow says he’s 100% but his injury woes continue. A nice week one matchup against the Browns will provide for many opportunites for Kellen and the TB offense. He remains a good start but keep an eye on his injury status as the game approaches.

10) Chris Cooley – WAS – TE
Cooley remains a great TE, but Fred Davis is right on his heels. Donovan McNabb loves the TE option (2009 Celek proves this) and we think that his new TE tandum will continue this trend. The question is who will get the targets, and will they split the duties. Preseason looked like Fred Davis was the better option, but we know that Cooley will be the guy come Week 1. But for how long?

11) Owen Daniels – HOU – TE
I love Owen and Houston’s offense, but Week 1 Colts is a tough game to start the season with. This one should be a defensive battle leaving OD with only a few targets.

12) Visanthe Shiancoe – MIN – TE
Shiancoe could emerge as a great fantasy TE again this year with Farve back in the saddle. My gut once again leaves me pessimistic as Brett is one hit away from permanent retirement. A Week 1 Saints mathup isn’t a gem for a TE, so I will wait and see on Shiancoe this week.

13) Heath Miller – PIT – TE
Heath is a great fantasy TE, but with Big Ben sidelined he may not get the love that he deserves. Dixon may check down to him ofen, but it’s more likely that the running game will be in full force for the Steelers early in 2010.

14) John Carlson – SEA – TE
Carlson is an emerging talent who is worthy of a flyer until he can prove that he is a reliable start from week to week.

15) Dustin Keller – NYJ – TE
Keller will shine here and there during 2010, but his inconsistency and QB Sanchez continue to hold him back. Will he emerge in 2010? Probably not in week 1 as they face a tough Baltimore team who can now play offense too. Their clock management will limit the Jets offensive opportunities.

16) Kevin Boss – NYG – TE
17) Todd Heap – BAL – TE
18) Jeremy Shockey – NOR – TE
19) Benjamin Watson – CLE – TE
20) Greg Olsen – CHI – TE
21) Anthony Fasano – MIA – TE
22) Tony Scheffler – DET – TE
23) Shawn Nelson – BUF – TE
24) Jermaine Gresham – CIN – TE
25) Bo Scaife – TEN – TE
26) Tony Moeaki – KAN – TE
27) Fred Davis – WAS – TE
28) David Thomas – NOR – TE
29) Daniel Graham – DEN – TE
30) Daniel Fells – STL – TE
31) Rob Gronkowski – NEP – TE
