The defensive units in college football have seen a huge shift. Yes, the Ohio St. Buckeyes remain number one just like recent years, but the teams down the rest of the ranks haven’t been there in quite some time. Many are new to the fantasy ranks such as teams like Temple and Rutgers.
A team like Florida will need to reload, as they were decimated by losses on the defensive side of the ball as they lost six starters, that doesn’t mean they lack talent though. They are a team that could rise up these ranks.
Ohio St. returns a formidable group that is anchored by DL Cameron Heyward and DT Dexter Larimore up front. The Buckeyes return last season’s leading tackler in OLB Ross Homan and together with MLB Brian Rolle form a top notch unit. Keep an eye on OLB Etienne Sabino who is a tackling machine and now gets a chance to shine. The secondary is an experienced group, led by cornerbacks Chimdi Chekwa and Devon Torrence, both seniors who will be playing on Sundays next year. Jermale Hines returns to strong safety in his senior season, along with the unknown sophomore Orhian Johnson.
Across all levels this is an experienced and talented group who will look to keep the Buckeyes the pride of the Big Ten as well as college football, that doesn’t mean teams like Iowa aren’t knocking at the door though, as they show up number two in the ranks and look to continue the tradition of strong, defensive minded teams led by DE Adrian Clayborn and SS Tyler Sash.
