The tight end position is extremely deep this season and it’s a position fantasy owner’s can wait on to address other needs during the draft.
For those of you looking for a sleeper, look to the left and see Tony Moeaki of the Kansas City Chiefs.
I have to admit I’m higher on Moeaki than most people at FFB. I even think he might be a little low here. The Chief’s don’t have a pass catching tight end and haven’t had one since Tony Gonzalez left town. Moeaki was a solid pass catcher at Iowa who played in a pro style offense, but injuries plagued him throughout his career. If he can stay healthy and the Chief’s offense can be better than it was last year, then what we have here is a bona fide sleeper.
Be on the lookout for our draft kit which will give more detail concerning the tight end position, it will be dropping soon.
Until then, here is a quick look at the tight end position and where we have them ranked in July.
2010 July TE Ranks
1) Dallas Clark – IND – TE
Still number one in fantasy land.
2) Jason Witten – DAL – TE
In line for another productive season.
3) Antonio Gates – SDC – TE
With Vincent Jackson missing three games, could get a ton of looks.
4) Tony Gonzalez – ATL – TE
The “old man” just keeps plugging away.
5) Zach Miller – OAK – TE
Young and talented tight end looking to join the elite.
6) Vernon Davis – SFO – TE
Could see numbers dip from last season.
7) Jermichael Finley – GRE – TE
Finley will look to make his mark this season.
8) Brent Celek – PHI – TE
Kevin Kolb takes the reigns and Celek will soar.
9) Chris Cooley – WAS – TE
Owner’s should not sleep on a healthy Cooley.
10) Visanthe Shiancoe – MIN – TE
Favre will return and Shiancoe will retain his value.
11) Owen Daniels – HOU – TE
I’m a little concerned about the knee injury.
12) Kellen Winslow – TAM – TE
The Buc’s main receiving threat.
13) Heath Miller – PIT – TE
Ben Roethlisberger will miss some games and Miller will be asked to block more.
14) John Carlson – SEA – TE
Hasn’t really capitalized on solid rookie season.
15) Dustin Keller – NYJ – TE
More hype than production? Will look to take a step forward this year.
16) Kevin Boss – NYG – TE
Underappreciated and undervalued in fantasy circles, a very good late round option.
17) Benjamin Watson – CLE – TE
I like him this year more than some, I just don’t like his quarterback.
18) Todd Heap – BAL – TE
Bounceback season last year for a guy that has waited a couple seasons to bounceback.
19) Jeremy Shockey – NOR – TE
I have never had Shockey on my fantasy teams and can’t recommend him.
20) Greg Olsen – CHI – TE
Olsen will suffer in Mike Martz’s offense.
21) Shawn Nelson – BUF – TE
The Bills think Nelson will step up this season, problem is will a quarterback?
22) Jermaine Gresham – CIN – TE
Will the Bengals finally use a tight end in their offense?
23) Tony Scheffler – DET – TE
Will keep the seat warm until Brandon Pettigrew works his way back from a knee injury.
24) Bo Scaife – TEN – TE
Scaife is a PPR sleeper, but young Jared Cook is nipping at his heels.
25) Tony Moeaki – KAN – TE
I like this guy alot. He is my sleeper tight end this season.
26) Fred Davis – WAS – TE
If Cooley were to get hurt slide him up the board 13 to 15 spots.
27) David Thomas – NOR – TE
When Shockey gets injured, fantasy owners should pounce on Thomas.
28) Anthony Fasano – MIA – TE
Fasano will have improved numbers with Brandon Marshall around.
29) Daniel Graham – DEN – TE
The best blocking tight end in football.
30) Daniel Fells – STL – TE
Fells showed small glimpses last season for a horrible team.
