The college game lost some notable big names to the NFL this year. Dez Bryant of Oklahoma St. and Demaryius Thomas of Georgia Tech went in the first round. Gone are college stalwarts Golden Tate of Notre Dame and Arrelious Benn of Illinois, as well as the stand-out duo of Dezmon Briscoe and Kerry Maier at Kansas.
The wide receivers in the 2010 class are a “boom” or “bust” gamble, then again when is the wide-receiver position not? This years class has had injuries wreak havoc and there are a ton of guys who are out to prove themselves on the big stage. The top three(DeAndre Brown, Vincent Brown, and Michael Floyd) in these rankings all have been derailed by injuries in their careers.
This class is led by 6’6″, 231 lb. man-child DeAndre Brown. Most of you will remember the horrific broken leg he suffered against Troy in the New Orleans Bowl. Brown should be at full strength this season and will be hard to handle in Conference-USA.
One of the safest options to go with in your draft is to target University of Houston receivers. The trio of James Cleveland, Tyron Carrier, and Patrick Edwards put up a combined 280 receptions for 3,264 yards and 27 touchdowns last year. That type of production has a good chance of repeating itself this year and all three players are ranked in the top 20.
