Matt Schaub is the top option in Week 17.
Week 17 is upon us. The final week of the NFL regular season inevitably signals the end of the 2009 Fantasy season. If your reading this then your probably playing for a title. I’m not a fan of the week 17 playoff format and will never play in a league that extends until this week. I feel like it takes away from everything owner’s did throughout the year. To many teams rest players this week and I’m actually ok with it. I’m not ok with what the Colts did last weekend, but that’s a separate rant all together. If you rode Peyton and Co. this far they either burned you last week or have you scrambling this week. The key is to find players who have something to play for, but at this point in the season, it’s easier said than done. We know not to start Peyton and the Colts, but what about Brady and Warner? Will they see a decrease in playing time? If history is an indicator we can expect both to play sparingly. So now comes the difficult part. Do you sit your stud for someone like Kyle Orton, Alex Smith or Vince Young? Every situation is different. I’m not sure how I would feel if I lost because I started Alex Smith over Warner, and Warner plays the entire game. Two guys I’m not worried about are McNabb and Romo. They’ll face off this weekend in a game that holds significant meaning so we know they’ll probably play the entire game. Same can be said for Roethlisberger, Flacco and to some extent Favre. The key word is probably. Saying “he’ll probably play the entire game” leaves something to be desired. It’s difficult to rest your title hopes on guys who may or may not play the entire game. It’s why this week is so difficult to predict, but it’s also why we do what we do. If your in a bind I urge you to take advantage of our FREE ASK A QUESTION feature. It’s like I said, every situation is different so let us know yours and we’ll give you free personalized advice to get you a much desired fantasy title.
Just a side note, but like some of you fantasy football is my drug of choice. I can’t just quit cold turkey. I need to be eased out slowly. If your the same way, I suggest you grab four or five of your friends and play fantasy for the NFL playoffs. It doesn’t provide the same rush as the regular season, but it’s always nice to watch football and say “I’ve got him going today”.

WELCOME TO THE BROTHERHOOD!
1) Matt Schaub – HOU – QB, vs. New England Patriots, Sun 1:00 PM
The Texans will be playing for the win and the Patriots will be looking ahead. Schaub has been very good lately, although it should be noted that the Texans have struggled in the second half most of the year.
2) Aaron Rodgers – GRE – QB, at Arizona Cardinals, Sun 4:15 PM
Rodgers is the first player in football to throw for 4000 yards in each of his first two seasons. I think it’s safe to say the Packers made the right move when they let Favre walk.
3) Ben Roethlisberger – PIT – QB, at Miami Dolphins, Sun 1:00 PM
Big Ben and the Steelers have become a pass first team. He’s sure to sling it all over the field vs the Dolphins on Saturday in a must win game.
4) Drew Brees – NOR – QB, at Carolina Panthers, Sun 1:00 PM
Head coach Sean Payton said the Saints will go all out and try to get back on track this weekend. That’s all I needed to know.
5) Donovan McNabb – PHI – QB, at Dallas Cowboys, Sun 1:00 PM
McNabb has been one of the hottest signal callers in football. Look for him to bring his A game this weekend vs the division rival.
6) Tony Romo – DAL – QB, vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Sun 1:00 PM
Like McNabb, Romo has been playing solid football. After a rocky December start the Cowboys have turned things around.
7) Brett Favre – MIN – QB, vs. New York Giants, Sun 1:00 PM
Favre had a huge second half Monday night to save his fantasy day, but the Vikings are unraveling and #4 is a big reason why.
8) Tom Brady – NEP – QB, at Houston Texans, Sun 1:00 PM
I’m not sure how much of Brady we’ll see on Saturday. The good news is he looks healthy. I think he has a decent shot of seeing significant time but with the Patriots, we just never know. It’s because of this I dropped him this far in the ranks.
9) Kurt Warner – ARI – QB, vs. Green Bay Packers, Sun 4:15 PM
Whether or not Warner plays a significant amount of time depends on what happens in the early games on Saturday. Not exactly a promising outlook.
10) Jay Cutler – CHI – QB, at Detroit Lions, Sun 1:00 PM
Cutler will probably disappoint, but he has a great match up vs the Lions. Feel free to use him over some of the other previously safer options.
11) Joe Flacco – BAL – QB, at Oakland Raiders, Sun 4:15 PM
The Raiders have a knack for playing good football against solid teams. Flacco comes with some risk but also needs to win. I’m betting on Flacco in this one.
12) Philip Rivers – SDC – QB, vs. Washington Redskins, Sun 4:15 PM
Rivers is in danger of sitting in the second half. The Chargers could leave him and the rest of the starters at home and still come out on top.
13) Matt Ryan – ATL – QB, at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sun 1:00 PM
Ryan has a chance to finish the season out on a high note. I think he does vs a motivated Tampa squad.
14) Kyle Orton – DEN – QB, vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Sun 4:15 PM
I’ve been mentioning Orton for weeks as one of the guys that will probably lead several teams to a fantasy title. He has a plus match up vs the Chiefs this weekend, so feel free to plug him into your lineup.
15) Alex Smith – SFO – QB, at St. Louis Rams, Sun 1:00 PM
Smith has been a tad inconsistent lately. He’s a solid play but far from a sure thing.
16) Chad Henne – MIA – QB, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Sun 1:00 PM
We had Henne as one of our waiver wire pick ups over the last couple of weeks. I know they play the Steelers who need a win, but Henne has been good enough for a spot start. Over the last four weeks he’s averaging over 300 yards a game.
17) Eli Manning – NYG – QB, at Minnesota Vikings, Sun 1:00 PM
The Vikings need to win and Eli and the rest of the Giants were embarrassed on Sunday. It’s a recipe for disaster on the road in a meaningless game.
18) David Garrard – JAC – QB, at Cleveland Browns, Sun 1:00 PM
Garrard hasn’t been great but he has a plus match up vs the Browns. If you own Peyton or another signal caller in danger of resting, Garrard makes a solid play.
19) Matt Moore – CAR – QB, vs. New Orleans Saints, Sun 1:00 PM
Moore has been very good since taking over as the starter. He has progressed nicely and has six TD passes in the last two weeks. I would have ranked him higher if S.Smith was going to play.
20) Vince Young – TEN – QB, at Seattle Seahawks, Sun 4:15 PM
I like Young this week, but don’t think he’ll have the stat line to warrant the start.
21) Matt Cassel – KAN – QB, at Denver Broncos, Sun 4:15 PM
Denver is playing for everything and the Chiefs haven’t scored a first quarter touchdown all season. Yikes!
22) Carson Palmer – CIN – QB, at New York Jets, Sun 1:00 PM
Both teams need this game. The Jets feature one of the strongest defenses in the game rendering Palmer a poor option.
23) Jason Campbell – WAS – QB, at San Diego Chargers, Sun 4:15 PM
The Skins have been very bad on offense over the last two weeks. Look for the trend continues this weekend.
24) Peyton Manning – IND – QB, at Buffalo Bills, Sun 1:00 PM
Probably get’s a couple of chances but that’s it. I wouldn’t be shocked if he doesn’t even make the trip.
25) Mark Sanchez – NYJ – QB, vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Sun 1:00 PM
Like Palmer both teams need this win. The game will be dominated by defense.
26) Matt Hasselbeck – SEA – QB, vs. Tennessee Titans, Sun 4:15 PM
Bordering on Jake Delhomme status and that screams stay away.

who should i start – a. rodgers or j flacco for championship start philly def or bengals?
Charlisa,
Thanks for the question, I would recommend Aaron Rodgers over Joe Flacco, but if you want to play it safe and start a guy who you know will play the whole game then Flacco is your man. I would go with Flacco.
