Hester for Nicks? The Brotherhood endorses #23.

Welcome to Wednesdays Mailbag where we sift through our Ask a Question emails and find some of the more interesting emails. It has been a crazy week here for us but also an extremely exciting one, if you haven’t noticed yet, we have a new site design and layout. We have tried to make the site easier on the eye and also simpler to navigate for you the reader. Let us know what you think, we always love to hear from our readers. Do you love it/hate it? it’s all good in the Brotherhood just drop us a line, or try and be part of the mailbag. As usual we have changed the names to protect the innocent, but there was no editing done to any of the questions or responses.

i received a trade offer that includes:
i give up devin hester and justin gage
i get hakeem nicks and nate washingon.

my other WRS are santonio holmes, miles austin, nate burleson, and kevin walter. i start 3 WRS every week.

6 pts per td, 1 pt ever 10 yds and 1 pt every 25 yds on punt returns and kick returns.

i feel as though hesters upside is better but my concern is that i have matt forte and the bears D. i dont want to put all my eggs in one basket but i also like hester’s consistency. please help! im breaking my head evaluating every scenario and i need an outside opinion.

    Kelly,
This is a trade worth considering, but when it comes down to it, Hester is too valuable. Nate Washington and Justin Gage are simply side dishes so the real deal is Hester for Nicks straight up. Nicks has as much big play ability, the only difference is that Hester is a WR1 and Nicks is in a committee as a WR2. Hester has out-produced expectations and is by far Cutler’s favorite option. His target numbers are big every week, and his catches per target ratio is one of the best in the league. Your league awards for return yards, so that’s another factor in your favor. Don’t worry about putting all your eggs in one basket. Fantasy is an individual, not a team sport. Talent is talent. Stick with Hester.
    Hope that this helps.

Hey guys, got a tight end problem. I have owen daniels and zach miller, whose on a bye this week. i’m in a i/2 pt ppr league with 6 pts for all tds. should i add a te like tony scheffler as a one week replacement and go with miller the rest of the way? i may be able to trade tim hightower (my other rbs are AP, rice and s jax) for antonio gates although that may not be a firm offer. assuming it was, which way would u go? My two top wrs are colston and ochocinco and qbs are flacco and mcnabb. Thanks guys
  • Shaun
    Henry,
If you can get Gates for Hightower then I would pull that trigger immediately. If need be throw in one of your TEs to solidify the deal. If that does not happen I’d target second year man Fred Davis of the Redskins who looked sharp in his debut when Chris Cooley went down. Scheffler struggled last week vs. the Baltimore defense. He’s got a similar match-up on the horizon vs. the Steelers. Hope that this helps.

I haven’t got a question, but I am an avid fan of your site and am disappointed in the new format. Previously I would treat your early rankings with respect; But your new Tuesday rankings make me feel like I am in a free yahoo league. Experienced fantasy players know the depth charts.
    My early thoughts anyway.

Hey Bob,  We are very glad you are an avid fan of ours that cares enough to comment on our site. Our depth charts are just an informal update of all the depth charts, it is something that we have been slacking on, and something that should have been updated throughout the season. The good news is they are not meant to be a replacement for our 1ST LOOK: Ranks, our positional ranks will be out this afternoon sometime after noon eastern standard time. Our format will not change only the site layout. We will be keeping to the same schedule that we have been. What do you think of the new site design otherwise? We look forward to hearing from you again.

    • Taylor asks:

    Question: Standing scoring, 10 team head to head 3 PLAYER KEEPER league. 1-QB, 2-RB, 3-WR, 1-TE, 1-Kick, 1-Def

TRADE ADVICE: I have been offered Fitzgerald, Moats and Slaton for my Wayne and Forte.

MY TEAM: is 4-3 sitting in 4th.
    QB – Warner, Big Ben
WR – Boldin, Wayne, Colston, Berrian
RB – T.Jones, Forte, Jacobs, Hightower and P.Thomas
    TE – D.Clark
    K – Tynes
    DEF – Indy & Baltimore

If not do you think Colston and Forte would be more reasonable? Or is this not a good idea at all.

    Thanks for your help!!!

The Texans have one of the most favorable schedules down the stretch with Jacksonville, Seattle and St Louis on the horizon. Chicago has one of the more difficult. Yeah, Forte had a big day, but it was against Cleveland. Regardless, Forte remains one of the only non-RBBC runners in the league. The Houston backfield situation is a wait and see scenario. Most sites are speculating a three headed monster, but I’m not so sure. Slaton and Brown have both struggled with ball security and redzone efficiency. Moats and Slaton are a similar style of back, but Moats was able to do what Slaton could not, and that’s to score on the ground and gain effective yardage on a carry-to-carry basis. Granted this was to the lowly Bills rush defense, but coach Kubiak must be impressed. Chris Brown has struggled with injuries his entire carreer. It’s just a matter of time before he’s on the sideline again. This weeks match-up won’t prove much as Houston travels to Indy for what should be a high scoring event. The Texans most likely will be playing from behind, so the ground game might not be as heavily relied upon. After this week the Texans are on a bye so long term rotation is difficult to predict. My best guess would suggest an early down workload for Moats, with Slaton coming in on passing downs. Brown should get phased out as Moats proved effective near the goal-line.
Looking at your roster and line-up, it is evident that regardless of this trade, two of your WRs will be your keepers. I see the Texan backfield combinning for a higher score than Forte, but Forte’s stats won’t be split.
Fitz was the concensus #1 WR heading into the season, but that has not been the case. Wayne is top dawg in 09. He’s second in the league in targets, yardage, and receptions. He’s tied for first in touchdowns. Fitz may be the better player, but Wayne is producing better stats. Opposing defenses have shut down Zona’s deep ball. What it really comes down to is Wayne has Peyton Manning throwing him the ball.
The trade is worth considering, but the instability of the Houston backfield is enough to stay put.
      Hope that this helps.

     Joe emails:

Hi – You\’ve helped me before…I am in a standard league – 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, etc…with a Flex opening. I am in now a 3 way tie for first (6-2) – our league is very non-trade oriented, but a 3-5 guy is offering MJD. I offered Shonn Greene, L. Marouney, Andre Caldwell, Mark Clayton – any 3 of these for MJD. Question – am I going overboard? I have M. Turner and B. Jacobs at RB, but only McNabb, Orton, and Sanchez at QB. My thinking, long range = playoffs, is, if I score MJD, I can trade Jacobs and either Orton or Sanchez for a top 5 QB (one guy has both Brady and Shaub – maybe he\’ll bite)… let me know if you have a chance, and thanks again…Jim C

    •  Paul
      Hey Joe,
Thanks for the question. How many teams are in your league and who else is on your roster? This will help us give you our most informed advice. You’ve clearly done your homework and it shows. I would give up all four of those guys to land MJD. All four are fringe players and Jones-Drew is elite. I would be shocked if he excepted the trade because 3-1 deals often don’t happen. If he does make the deal your team would be poised for a playoff title regardless of your QB. So if phase two of your plan doesn’t work out you still have three solid backs. I like McNabb and Orton going forward but I also like your plan to try and land Schaub or Brady.
Let us know how you make out and if you need advice filling in your roster after a potential 3-1 deal.
I hope we could help and good luck.
