The middle of the week at the Brotherhood means it’s time to dive into another mailbag. There are a ton of things going on around the NFL that are having a huge impact on the world of fantasy football. Recent injuries to star wide receivers, L.J.’s outburst and likely suspension at the very least, six more teams on byes, and league waiver wires are becoming more barren than the Sahara all across fantasy nation. The sudden re-emergence of Shonn Greene and Beanie Wells finally hitting pay dirt have all been part of what was wacky week 7. As usual these are all real emails right down to the spelling and grammatical mistakes. The names of our readers have been changed to protect their safety in their leagues. Fantasy Football Brothers is in the midst of an exciting change that we will be revealing to all our readers on Monday. Make sure you come and check out our 1ST LOOK: and the new change we are unveiling.

Ricky asks:
My team is feeling thin at RB. Looking to make some changes this week on waivers. I play in a 10 team non-PPR league, here’s my team:
QB – T. Romo
RB – S. Jackson, P. Thomas, M. Bell, A. Bradshaw, J. Jones, J. Lewis
WR – Ochocinco, Megatron, M. Austin, S. Rice, N. Burleson, Cotchery, M. Manninham
TE – Celek
K – Tynes
DST – Patriots (grabbing Cardinals or Cowboys for next week)
Beanie Wells, Shonn Greene, and Correll Buckhalter are on waivers this week. Should I try to pick any of them up and drop Julius Jones, Jamal Lewis, and/or Mario Manninham?
Thanks.
Ricky

Yes,
You are super-deep at WR. Jones and Lewis are Expendable. Pursue these runners on the wire (Waiver Wire Week 8 dropped this morning – Check it out!). Then try to patch-work a deal with one of your WRs and inferior RB options for a solid RB2.
Let us know how things go.
Hope that this helps.

Which running back should I start this week,
Ray Rice (vs Denver) or Thomas Jones (vs Miami)?
I’m playing MJD as my other starter
No ppr, 10 yards (rush and rec) = 1 pt., TD = 6 pts., FL = -2 pts.
Thanks.

Jimmy,
Thanks for the question. If this was a PPR or hybrid league then it would be a no-brainner in Ray Rice, but Jones has once again quietly pieced together a solid season. Still I would go with Rice. Denver’s Defense is solid, but Rice proved vs. Minny that he’s a must-start regardless of match-up. Plus we don’t know how big of a factor Shonn Greene will play for the Jets.
Hope that this helps.

in a 12 team ppr league, i have to pick one or two of these backs to start with steve slaton for week 8, beanie wells, darren sproles, or chester taylor . i’m already starting driver and wayne, and could add another receiver like nate washington, hakeem nicks, jeremy maclin, or laveranues coles. this is a tough one this week, and i don’t trust the guru’s picks of washington and wells. what do you think? thanks guys

Looking at the backs you mentioned – I’d roll with Wells and Sproles. If Wells can hold onto the ball, he could be in for a great home stretch. The Cards should have their way with Carolina, allowing Wells to get his touches on the ground. Sproles was phased out for a few games, but San Diego came to their senses and saw he is one of their better play-makers. He gets an extra bump if your league rewards for returns.
Ranking the WRs available if I had to rank them in order:
1 – Nicks: Manningham continues to drop balls, while Nicks continues to score. He’ll eventually bully his way into the starting line up.
2 – Maclin: He has solidified the WR2 role in a pass-happy offense. With DeSean Jackson drawing most to the defensive attention – Maclin will have his opportunities on the opposite side.
3 – Nate Washington
4 – Coles: Cincy is on a bye.
Hope that this helps Paul
Thanks for the question.

Trying to pick the right flex start. Starting at WR I have Andre Johnson, TJ Housh, and Derrick Mason. Starting at RB I have Ray Rice and Kevin Smith. My flex options are Austin Collie, Shon Greene, Correll Buckhalter, Devery Henderson, Hakeem Nicks, or Jerome Harrison. At this point I’m leaning toward Shon Greene as the flex start.
So, do I have the right WR and RB starters? If not, what would your suggestion be for those and the flex spot. It’s a ppc league.
- Shaun
Marty, it would be helpful to know what your scoring system. I see that you mentioned it’s a ppc but what about ppr? I tend to lean towards backs as my flex in standard scoring leagues, and wide-outs for PPR’s. Collie and Nicks both have impressed. Collie has scored in three straight games where Nicks has scored in 4 straight. When you begin to see consistency like this you can consider it more of a trend then a fluke. I love Shonn Greene’s potiential, but I haven’t seen enough to give him a solid vote of confidence over these steady receiver options. It looks like you’ve made great use of your waiver wire. This is a good problem to have. I can see all three players having similar days, so like answering questions on a test: They say never go back and change your answers – If you’ve already filled in the Shonn Greene bubble – I’d feel comfortable leaving it that way. Stay tuned all week as we release our Mail Bag, Final Ranks and Write ups, injury updates and other key components that will contribute to your fantasy success.
Thanks for the question. I hope that this helps.
