With another Sunday behind us several more key players managed to find themselves on the injury report. This is a quick look at yesterday’s injuries and what we can expect going forward.
1) Frank Gore – SFO – RB
Gore left Sunday’s game after only one carry. Early reports are that he suffered a strained ankle ligament. The injury is serious enough to keep Gore out for a couple of weeks.
Glenn Coffee will start in Gore’s place and should be owned in all leagues.
2) Brian Westbrook – PHI – RB
Westbrook wasn’t active against the Chiefs on Sunday. After aggravating his surgically repaired ankle Westbrook sat out practice all week and was considered questionable. This is nothing new to Westbrook owners. The Eagle’s are on there bye this week so Westbrook has extra time to rest his swollen ankle. Word out of Philly is that even when he is healthy he will split time with rookie LeSean McCoy.
McCoy played well in Westbrook’s absence and should be owned in all leagues.
3) Kevin Smith – DET – RB
Smith aggravated his shoulder in the fourth quarter against the Skin’s. Another tough break for the Lion’s. They get there first win since December of 2007, but lose one of there best players in the process. Although the severity of the injury is unknown, we think it could keep Smith out a couple of weeks. We will update his status throughout the week. If Smith does miss time Maurice Morris would start.
4) Clinton Portis – WAS – RB
Portis suffered a calf strain Sunday in a loss to the Lions. The injury is not considered serious but it will probably slow him down even more. Portis is also suffering from bone spurs in both his ankles. Portis is an old 28, who looks like he could be on his last legs. We would recommend picking up Ladell Betts.
5) Dwayne Bowe – KAN – WR
Bowe was a late scratch from the lineup Sunday with a hamstring injury. This is something to keep an eye on throughout the week. A hamstring injury on a wide receiver can linger.
6) Wes Welker – NEP – WR
Welker missed another game Sunday with a knee injury. We have know idea what the severity of his injury is. We do know it has kept him out for two straight weeks and will probably limit him in practice this week.
7) Laurent Robinson – STL – WR
Fantasy Football Brothers favorite Laurent Robinson will miss the remainder of the year with a broken leg. This is a huge blow to the Rams, who were relying on Robinson as there number one wide out.
8) Chad Pennington – MIA – QB
Pennington tore the capsule in his right shoulder and could miss the entire year. Backup Chad Henne gets a chance to prove his worth in what has been a poor passing attack under Pennington.
