McGahee has become the RB waiver hero two weeks in a row

Fantasy Football Brothers takes a 1ST Look at the Waiver Wire. As you all know Working the Waiver Wire can make or break a team. It’s hard to always identify talent that can impact an NFL game, but more importantly also impact your fantasy team. We have commentary on each player, but also in parentheses our recommendation for what each players value is. This is not only advice for this week, but also an advance scouting report for guys that are beginning to emerge in this early season. The guys that could in fact impact your team later on in the season, whether its a week away of two months away we will keep you ahead of the curve, and identify the players that will win you your league.

Running Backs

Willis McGahee – BAL – RB
McGahee has become a must own in every league and format. Through 2 games he has rushed for 123 yards and 3 TDs, with 6 Rec. 41 yds. 1 Td. He’s claimed the goal-line job and received the majority of carries down the stretch against the Chargers. The Ravens will continue to frustrate fantasy owners going with the hot back.(Must Own)

Tashard Choice – DAL – RB
Choice impressed at seasons end last year as Barber fell to injury. This year he’s been the odd-man, but has shown ability with his touches. MBIII came up lame on a sure-fire touchdown. Thus far the reports have indicated that it’s a non-serious quad strain. It looked pretty bad on tape. Keep a close ear to the injury report for Choice will definitely produce if he’s given the chance. Update: Barber to miss 1-2 weeks. Choice could see a lot of work vs. Carolina and Denver. If you’re in need of a back or looking for a nice flex play - Choice should be your choice come Waiver day.  (If you got MBIII go get him)

Michael Bush – OAK – RB
Bush is playing a more consistent role than many thought. He is a strong between the tackles runner. He’s seen almost equal touches to Darren McFadden thus far, and could warrant a flex play from time to time in non-ppr leagues. (Should be owned in all leagues. McFadden insurance)

Justin Forsett – SEA – RB
Julius Jones’ time to shine was short lived. After an impressive pre-season, Forsett saw playing time vs. San Francisc0 after the ‘Hawks fell behind early. He is a complete back who provides Seattle with a legit pass-catching option out of the backfield. Expect continued use and an expanding role. (Worth a roster spot in deep leagues. A must have for Jones owners)

Correll Buckhalter – DEN – RB
Buckhalter looked strong vs. an anemic Cleveland Defense, totaling over 100 all-purpose yards and a score. Denver looks like it has not defined any true starters at any position. Moreno looks healthy, but I’d expect this time-share to continue. (Worth a pick up)

Chris Brown – HOU – RB
Steve Slaton’s struggles continue. Brown came in near the goal-line and finished the game off when it mattered. Brown didn’t do much to impress, but the situation deems continued surveillance. (Simply Slaton insurance at this time)

 Wide Receivers

Laurent Robinson – STL – WR
Robinson will push for WR1 duties on one of the worst offenses in the league. That being said – a number one receiver is a number one receiver. His speed and size make him a threat all over the field. He’s posted two consecutive consistent games. (Definitely worth a roster spot in all formats)

Mario Manningham – NYG – WR
Manningham could emerge as the Giants number one receiver. He appears to have great confidence and comfort for such an inexperienced pro. He’s looked great in both games this season. With Nicks and Hixon side-lined the job will be his to lose.(Pick him up!)

Steve Smith – NYG – WR
Smith was the only known factor in the Giants receiving corps. We expected him to lead the team in catches, but he has shown that he’s more than a simple slot possession guy. He continue to rack up targets and will be the G-Men’s most consistent wide-out.(Should be owned in ALL leagues)

Chansi Stuckey – NYJ – WR
Stuckey’s week one blown coverage touchdown had the Hood wondering if he was legit. His week two performance proved that. Mark Sanchez is playing well beyond the expectations of everyone. He appears to have developed a relationship with Stuckey.(Worth a roster spot)

Mike Sims-Walker – JAC – WR
The silver lining with any injury is opportunity. With Troy Williamson’s season ending, Sims-Walker will re-capture the job that he lost in the pre-season. He was on everyone’s pre-draft sleeper lists, but then lost his job to the surprisingly impressive Williamson. The Jags are super thin at WR. His job as the WR2 looks secure. The way Torry Holt is playing – he could become the number one.(Needs to show he can produce on a more consistent basis – but grab him before someone else does)

Devery Henderson – NOR – WR
Henderson has been plagued by bad hands. He’s always had the speed. If he can finally put the two together – he could be in for a surprisingly successful fantasy season. New Orleans pass-catcher saturation makes it difficult to project accurate fantasy stats. With Lance Moore’s continued struggles with injuries, Henderson will continue to see opportunities.(High-risk, High-reward guy)

Johnny Knox – CHI – WR
Knox has come out of no where to impress. When the game was on the line he was Cutler’s go-to-guy. He’s got Devin Hester comparable speed and has been given return duties. He replaced Earl  Bennett on two wide-receiver sets down the stretch in the fourth quarter, and was targeted often.(Worth consideration in deep leagues)

Bobby Wade – KAN – WR
Wade went from the Vikings number one receiver to a sudden free-agent. He’s found a home in Kansas City and pulled down 6 catches for 72 yards on Sunday. Mark Bradley was shutout. Coach Todd Haley has been desperately searching for a better WR2 option. He may have found it in Wade. (Deep league consideration)

Jacoby Jones – HOU – WR
Jones’ value has come from Kevin Walter’s absence. When Walter returns, his fantasy significance will drop.(Not worth picking up)

Pierre Garcon – IND – WR
Garcon was thought to be the one to step up in Anthony Gonzalez’s absence, but Peyton just decided to use Dallas Clark a little more. Garcon’s box score numbers appear better than they were. He was invisible for most of the game but his game winning touchdown will gain him more attention than he deserves. Collie will continue to battle with him for snaps.(Not warranting a waiver move)

Julian Edelman – NEP – WR
Fantasy Football has not had many wide receiver handcuffs, but Edelman is definitely one. There were times in Sunday’s game vs. the Jets where I actually thought Edelman was Welker. He made some key drops, but is a sure thing to produce if Welker is ever a surprising no-go again.(Only if you got Welker)

Joey Galloway – NEP – WR
Galloway is finally looking his age. With Welker being out he started the game as the WR2, but was completely out played by Edelman. He had difficulty separating and dropped some key balls. The entire Patriot offense looked off.(Very, very deep leagues)

Tight Ends

Jeremy Shockey – NOR – TE
As long as Shockey stays healthy he will remain a weekly threat to find pay-dirt. He’s shown consistency through two games and should continue to produce in the Saints pass-happy offense. If he’s somehow still out there – Go Get Him. (Should be owned in all formats)

Todd Heap – BAL – TE
Heap has been targeted 12 times already this year. He’s reminded the fantasy world what he is capable when healthy. 6 Rec. 83 Yds. 2 TDs in two games. A suitable pickup for your struggling TE (Value in Deep Leagues)

Brent Celek – PHI – TE
Celek has been a Brotherhood favorite since day one. He continues to quietly produce. He is very quickly becoming fantasy relevant and is an excellent pick-up and play guy. Those that have any worries about their starting tight end should feel comfortable playing Celek on a weekly basis. (100% worth the roster spot)

Kellen Davis – CHI – TE
Davis has emerged with the Clark injury. The Bears like to throw to both of their Tight Ends. With Olsen receiving most of coverage, Davis has become a viable option. (Not worth owning)

Quarterbacks

Kevin Kolb – PHI – QB
Kolb shocked everyone and showed why the Eagles have kept him on their roster for so long. 391 yards passing, 31 of 51 throwing with 2 scores. I’d take that from my starting quarterback any day.
(Good McNabb insurance)
