There once was a time when a touchdown determined the outcome of a fantasy match-up. It was a simple contest, and you could do the math in your head as you watched the games on Sunday and Monday night. Your studs found the endzone, and no one cared about the defensive corner who missed a tackle and let your RB go rumbling for 39.5yds for the score. Ahh…. The Good O’le Days!!
Unfortunately, those days have since past, and now we find ourselves arguing over how we should account for half yards, tipped passes, and Ed Hochuli’s latest blown call that led to our fantasy demise. Is this progress, I ask??
We are now forced to analyze complex spreadsheets each Saturday afternoon in order to somehow mathematically figure out who to start for our Sunday and Monday night match-ups, not to mention those Thursday night games that you can’t even see! A laptop is almost required, and the newspaper rarely finds it’s way into a draft room during late August anymore. BTW-(If you see someone with the newspaper, good work, your much closer to winning a championship then you would be if he/she had a laptop!) And yes, I now have to add (/she) to articles because the wives now feel like they can compete with their husbands within the Fantasy framework. Once again I ask, is this progress?? Where will all the madness end?
As you start to think about the upcoming NFL season, please ask yourselves a few quick questions, which may help all of us deal with the fiasco that we have created.
1) Do we really need to have a double digit points awarded for every single NFL play?
2) Can we get someone else to do Saturday’s FF dirty work so that I can drink some beers with the boys instead?
3) How many hours did I spend last season staring at numbers trying to figure out whether or not to start Maurice Jones-Drew or Chris Johnson?
4) Can’t I hook my old lady up with a few extra bucks to go shopping with, so she will stop trying to pretend like she can hang within the FF brotherhood?
