 Analysis:

TEAM 1: Purple Jesus is the undisputed number one pick in the draft. Roddy White, Steve Smith, and Eddie Royal look to be the best wide receiver trio in this league. The major question lies at the RB2 slot. With Lynch facing suspension, Team 1 did a good job of drafting insurance in Knowshon Moreno. But Denver has a stable of runners, and although I believe Moreno will take the reigns as the lead Bronco, it may not be right out the gates when this owner will need him most. It is hard to grade a team with out a quarterback, but owning the first pick in the seventh round, I would look for Team 1 to grab a QB.  Matt Ryan, Big Ben and Cutler are all still on the board, so there are viable options still available.

TEAM 2: The strength of this team lies at the Runningback spot. I have Forte as the number two runner on my board as well. I love Pierre Thomas this year, and getting him with the 23rd overall pick could be the steal of the draft. Thomas has put on 10lbs in the off season in efforts to solidify his role in the offense, and prove to the Saints that they don’t need to look outside the organization for a between the tackles back. Contract questions are still swarming around Thomas Jones, but his agent has said that he is to return to OTA’s next week. The impact of Shonn Greene on Jones’ touches is a “wait and see” situation. But a good running game is a rookie quarterbacks best friend. Look for the Jets to run the rock often as Mark Sanchez gathers experience. Crabtree is the lone question mark, but in the sixth round is where I think he should go.

TEAM 3: If we were going into the 08 season, this team would look great, but we’re not. Barber, Romo, and Braylon have all experience stock hits since last year, but all are still in good positions to post decent fantasy numbers. Barber could have great value towards the end of the 2cnd round, but Felix Jones and Tashard Choice should cut into his carries. A time share is not necessarily a bad thing, for Barber’s bruising style requires rest. Romo’s value depends on how good Roy Williams can be. With Witten, Crayton and company, Romo still lies just outside the cusp of the top five QB’s.

TEAM 4: MJD will finally have his shot this year and I believe that he’ll make the best of it. His heart has never been questioned, and I do not think that his signing of a new deal will impact his performance. Calvin and Colston back to back in round 2 and 3 make for a lethal duo. With Anthony Gonzalez rounding out the platoon, look for this team to go with QB and TE in the rounds to come. Chris “Beanie” Wells is my preseason candidate for rookie of the year. I think that he will have great numbers in a potent offense. Tim Hightower should not be hard to surpass for the starting job. Well’s is still some what of a liability and I like what this GM did in drafting runners back to back in the 4th and 5th, following Wells with McFadden. “The Dark Knight” looks to rebound from an injury plagued rookie year in the Black Hole, but a committee still remains with Fargas and Bush in the picture. Look for McFadden to get the majority of the looks, but 20+ touches is unrealistic.

TEAM 5: Chris Johnson in the top 5? ABSOLUTELY! Johnson plays with a chip on his shoulder. He is one of those players that will look at his fantasy rankings and want to be the best. He has set personal goals to make it to the pro bowl and win league MVP. That may be a reach, but Johnson in the top five is not. The rest of the team looks steady, not outstanding. If Ocho Cinco can return to what he used to be, and if Lee Evans can become what everyone has been waiting for, this team could be one of the most well rounded teams out there.

TEAM 6: I have Brady as the number one quarterback going into this season, so grabbing him with the 19th overall pick is a steal. Look for the Patriots to return to form in 09. Having been robbed of a playoff birth in 08 with Cassel under center, look for the Pats to try and embarrass the league again. L.J. in the fourth could pay off huge, “could” being the important word in that sentence. S-Jack and L.J. both have concerns so I like the Benson pick up as a RB3. Cincy should somewhat rebound this year, and Benson should produce. Grabbing Gonzo in the 5th was smart, but with only one wideout, T.O., going into the 7th round I would expect this team to target Berrian, Santana, Cotchery, or Donnie Avery with their next couple of picks.

TEAM 7: Westbrook is always an injury concern, but when healthy there is no player in the game that can hurt you in so many ways. Ronnie Brown showed flashes of greatness last year. A lot of his success came out of the Wild Cat formation. With the Dolphins drafting Pat White, look for Brown to resume a more traditional role. I look for Randy Moss to do big things this season, and expect him to score more than both wide outs selected ahead of him (Larry Fitz and Andre Johnson). Roy Williams is one of those players that always seems to be overvalued, both in fantasy and reality. He could be a stud in Dallas as the number one guy, but last year looked like a fantasy bench player. Despite the Packers struggles as a team, Aaron Rodgers produced as a fantasy quarterback. With Marvin Harrison out of town, Dallas Clark becomes the true number two in this offense, over Anthony Gonzalez.

TEAM 8: With Brees at the helm, this team can afford to have some questions at other positions. It will be interesting to see how Housh fits into the Seattle offense, but with a healthy Hasselbeck, I look for him to have a solid year. Many wonder if Antonio Bryant’s “waiver wire pick up of the year” performance in 08 was just a fluke. The Bucs did the right thing in franchising him. There is still question of who exactly will be throwing him the ball. Jacobs will once again be a touchdown machine, but also has his injury concerns. Reggie Bush seems to still be adjusting to the pro game, but going into his injury last year, he was the highest scoring runner in those leagues where receptions and kick return duties were rewarded. It is hard to gauge where Bush should fall in standard leagues as a high percent of his production is in receptions. This owner attempted to address concerns with his starting runners by drafting Jamal Lewis in the sixth, but I’m not high on any of the Browns this season.

TEAM 9: Opting to draft the two highest regarded wide receivers going into 09 was a little daring. With the super saturation in the running back department, this GM was able to still land a substantial ground game in grabbing Joseph Addai, Kevin Smith, and Jonathan Stewart consecutively in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds. No true all stars in this back field, but all should improve on last years numbers. Many might think that he could have waited another round for Shaub, but I think the Texan will have a great year if he can stay on the field.

TEAM 10: This team has key guys at every position. I would expect him to go with a wide out in the 7th to better round out the squad. Rashard Mendenhall should be at full health this year, and it will be interesting to see how much of the work load he steals from Willy Parker. Lendale White is reported to have shown up to team workouts in phenomenal shape, and should produce as a high scoring RB3. Gates’ name is still over valued, and I predict him to go ahead of where he should. Landing him in the 5th seems realistic, but both Witten and Gonzo should most definitely be drafted ahead of him. I’ve seen Bowe in the top ten on many wide receiver boards – with decent QB play from Cassel, that very much could be the case.

TEAM 11: This is one of the most well rounded teams in this league. Many frustrated owners who have drafted LDT #1 the last two seasons are ready to throw in the towel, but I am not. Tomlinson is said to have reported to workouts in excellent condition and looks to be completely recovered from last years nicks and dings. I can’t see him falling out of the first round as he did here, but having LDT as your RB2 is ridiculous. This is most likely his last year in a Charger uniform. LaDainian will be playing for a job this season. Look for him to add to his resume as he gets ready to apply for a position elsewhere. The Niners drafted Glen Coffee out of Bama, but Gore is saying that his touches will not be effected. Gore has a history of injuries and could benefit by being in a lop sided rotation in his favor. Welker should contend for the reception title. With T.O. out of town, Witten should receive even more targets, and Vincent Jackson is finally turning into the player that had him on sleeper lists for the past 3 seasons. McNabb got skill position help in the draft, and the Eagles provided him with back side protection when they traded for Jason Peters.

TEAM 12: Slaton and DeAngelo Williams were both BIG surprises in 08. I don’t expect either of them to match last seasons numbers, but both should be productive yet again. Carolina is clearly a run first offense, but I expect Jonathan Stewart to contend for a little bit more of the carries. I like Houston as a fantasy team in general, but I look for the Texans to work another runner into the mix to keep Slaton from breaking down. Brandon Marshall once again enters another season with question marks. With a new quarterback, and a possible suspension to come, Marshall once again should be a gamble on draft day. Warner is the last of the top tier quarterbacks, and he should continue to put up big numbers, especially if Boldin stays in town. Derrick Ward is an interesting pick and could pay off as a 6th round selection. A time share with Earnest Graham is expected, but as we saw in New York, Ward does better when he is sharing carries.
