Nightmare Scenario….

The NFL Draft is now over and players will now report to their respective teams after signing lucrative deals even though they have not done anything in the NFL. While we scratch our heads and wonder what the Cowboys and Raiders were doing during the draft, let’s take a look at some nightmare scenarios for the 2009 Rookie class, Rounds 1 and 2 only.

1.)Matt Stafford-QB-Detroit–Learning on the job is never a good thing and this kid is a far cry from Matt Ryan. Although they have done a nice job surrounding him with some weapons in Detroit, it is not a given that he will start over Daunte Culpepper. We consider Stafford to be two to three years away before contributing from a fantasy aspect.

2.)Mark Sanchez-QB-New York Jets–Let me echo my prior statement that learning on the job is not beneficial to your fantasy squad. We see Sanchez starting from day one and he will struggle in a tough division. The other concerns for Sanchez is the lack of weapons in New York, Jerricho Cotchery and Dustin Keller are nice, after that it gets a little thin. Sanchez is a guy you might want to stash and save in a keeper league, but his fantasy outlook this year is minimal.

3.)Knowshon Moreno-RB-Denver Broncos–Let me get this straight, the Broncos take another running back when they have, get ready, J.J. Arrington, Correll Buckhalter, Andre Hall, Alex Haynes, Peyton Hillis, LaMont Jordan, Andrew Pinnock, P.J. Pope, Ryan Torain, and Selvin Young. Moreno is a great runner with great vision, but we have to wonder who will come out of this pack, it is simply too crowded and screams stay away on draft day. While Moreno will be great long term, he fits the bill as a stash and save guy.

4.)Josh Freeman-QB-Tampa Bay Buccaneers–Many thought he was overvalued on draft day, but if you look at the other quarterbacks behind him the Buccaneers hand was forced in making this pick. Again he is a guy that is two to three years away from contributing from a fantasy aspect, and offers little value this year.

5.)Richard Quinn-TE-Denver Broncos–The last pick of the second round is a tight end out of North Carolina. Quinn is by no means a pass catcher and the Broncos got him to block in the running game, we consider this quite a reach by Denver at the end of the round. Quinn offers little to no fantasy value.
