The Terrell Owens saga in Dallas is over! Last night the Dallas Cowboys released the all pro wide receiver. Owens has undeniable talent, but also has a reputation for being a loud mouth and a locker room cancer. Over his twelve year career he has been able to divide three NFL locker rooms and single handily has destroyed team chemistry. Jeff Garcia and Donovan F. McNabb are able to sleep at night and now Tony Romo will too. The drama surrounding a talented Cowboys team the last couple of years can be directly related to this brash wide receiver. In the middle of the teams playoff run, T.O. accused Romo and pro-bowl TE Jason Witten of running their own plays. What followed was an Owens led revolt in the locker room that was able to turn Americas team into Americas soap opera. Owens will catch on with another team and probably have a good year, but I don’t want him on my favorite NFL team and neither should you. Terrell Owens could be the first player in the history of fantasy football to ruin the chemistry of a fantasy football team. It could happen.
FANTASY IMPACT: Regardless of what Dallas does in the draft or free agency they have a very talented roster with several fantasy relevant players. Last year they traded first and third round picks to the Lions for wide receiver Roy Williams. Williams was considered a disapointment after the trade and owner Jerry Jones has been criticized for giving up to much to get him. He was never able to grasp the play book or develop a relationship with Romo. This year the Cowboys will design the passing game for Williams and Witten. I’m betting Williams thrives in the role as a number one receiver in a powerful offense. Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin will most likely battle for the number two role. Dallas will look to bring in another veteran wideout to shore up the depth chart. The sooner the Cowboys put the T.O. saga behind them the better, as the teams he has ruined in the past have been successful without him.
